On planet Earth, national governments run universities, or license them. The exception to this is the United States of America. The US has a two-tiered system consisting of state and private universities that are accredited, and universities that are approved by whatever state each school resides in.

To earn accreditation, schools are evaluated on factors like professor-to-student ratios, student support services, and the quality of the educational programs. The most widely recognized form of accreditation comes from the six regional accreditation agencies. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited all the undergraduate and graduate programs of WSC, including education specialist. The baccalaureate degrees have been approved since 1933, the master’s degrees since 1962, and the education specialist degree since 1983. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education has accredited all of the College’s undergraduate programs since 1954 and all graduate programs since 1962.

It depends upon your choice of concentration. Charter Oak offers many online courses, but it may not be possible to earn all the credits you need for your degree through our courses. You can take courses at colleges and universities close to your home; take tests to earn credits; and/or prepare a portfolio for assessment. Colleges or universities, which are accredited by one of several “recognized accrediting bodies” would meet this requirement. Please contact the college or university to determine if it was accredited during the period you attended, if there is any question. These institutions do not have to be located in Colorado. It depends on you and how much time you have available to commit to your education each week. Our experience indicates that if you matriculate (enroll) with about 45 credits, you can finish your associate degree (60 semester credits) in less than a year. If you matriculate with about 90 credits, you can finish your bachelor’s degree (120 semester credits) in 1-2 years. Graduations occur every two months. Charter Oak does not have an “academic residency requirement”, so you do not need to take any courses with us. However, we offer a variety of online courses that provide a flexible way to meet degree requirements within our programs.

Yes. Compton Community College is still accredited and has not lost its accreditation. Until all of our legal options are resolved, we continue to retain our accreditation and have all the rights and privileges of a community college. We hope to be able to offer doctorate programs in the future. Gaining approval from accrediting bodies for degree programs at a new level (especially doctorate-level) is a lengthy process. At this time, we are researching the possibility of developing doctorate programs in specialized areas such as Homeland Security, Intelligence, History and Emergency Management. Once developed, our current research suggests that accrediting any doctorate-level program could take 3-5 years.

The Woodland Trust is aware of Phytophthora ramorum (otherwise know as sudden oak death disease). Most cases of it in the United Kingdom have been found in rhododendrons, camellias and viburnum at garden centres. It has not affected any native oak trees as far as we know. It has been found in a few beech, horse chestnut, sweet chestnut, turkey oak, holme oak and red oak. Although these are very isolated examples, the existence of the fungus in the UK is a concern.
