Frequently Asked Questions

How do you shingle a dome?

Frequently Asked Questions
We use high grade 35-50 year warrented shingles. Each Triangle is shingled separately. The point down triangle bottom edges overlap the point up triangles by 6". We do not use any ridge cap shingles. We do not use any caulks or sealants which usually fail in 3-5 years. We use ice & water shield membranes at the top of the dome, in valleys and around skylights. We have hundreds of domes and they DO NOT leak, period.

How many stories can a dome have?

Canadian Wooden Domes - Custom Designed Homes and Emergency ...
The number of stories is a function of the diameter and height of the dome. Heights of stories are the same as for stick built buildings. For example a 30 foot diameter dome 30 ft. high could accommodate 3 stories. Because our domes are built of wood, residential domes are subjected to the same Fire Code regulations as stick built buildings. In Canada the maximum height is 4 stories for such a building. For non-residential buildings we can go higher than 4 stories.

Where is the Dome? Is it at Vredefort?

Frequent Questions
The "Vredefort Dome" is not actually at Vredefort but includes the whole central area of the crater core. Vredefort happens to be near the centre, as is Parys. There is an isostatic dome (bubble of granite) at Vredefort that is several hundred metres across and from the top affords a good view of the surrounding landscape with its ring of hills and rolling central plain. But this is not the Dome, only a tiny part of it.

What does having a Weather Dome effect in a Force Dome really means?

GURPS Frequently Asked Questions: Magic
The problem here is that the Weather Dome spell description is rather vague. However, if it can repel forceful jets of air (as the Windstorm spell) and volcanic ash, per the text, then it seems safe to assume that it can repel airborne dangers in general. Repelling the Windstorm spells means that it maintains constant air pressure, hence the ruling that a Force Dome always contains breathable oxygen-nitrogen at 1 atmosphere (for a human caster), no matter what.
