We treat all adult cancers that require chemotherapy. We also treat adult blood (hematologic) disorders. We do not treat children.

Cancers are rare in small polyps (less than 1 cm. or 1/4 inch). 50% of polyps greater than 2 cm. in size are cancerous. Fortunately, 70% of polyps discovered on a routine colonoscopy are less than 1 cm. in size- It takes about 10 years for a cancer to develop into a benign polyp.

If you think about the way that ripples extend concentrically from a pebble tossed in a pond, you can imagine how the gamma radiation extends out from each seed. Seeds are strategically placed such that the radiation of each seed interact with that of other seeds in a manner that gives the optimal dose of radiation to the prostate while minimizing the radiation dose to the other body tissues.

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (includes adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma) - Advanced or Metastatic (newly diagnosed or recurrent)

I do. I often treat cancer with Iscador, an alternative and nontoxic therapy now widely used in Europe. Iscador is a medicine made from the lacto-fermented extract of fresh sap of the plant known as mistletoe (viscum album). (see the Iscador page for more info). I also sometimes use digitalis, turmeric, and a variety of natural and herbal medicines in a comprehensive cancer program. At the same time, I work with cancer patients on a specific nutrition plan to help enhance the healing process.

Targeted cryosurgery is a procedure developed by Endocare, Inc. It uses the application of extreme cold in combination with ultrasound and temperature monitoring to precisely destroy cancer cells in and around the prostate gland. When extreme cold is introduced into the prostate gland, the prostate tissue is destroyed, including cancerous cells.

A non-smoking man is more likely to develop prostate cancer than he is to develop colon, bladder, melanoma, lymphoma and kidney cancers combined. No one knows exactly why survivors who have been treated for cancer develop a second cancer. This can be very frustrating for you and members of your health care team. There are some theories about why cancer and its treatment sometimes cause second cancers. Feel free to discuss these further with your health care team if you are curious about what causes second cancers.

The treatment options for early or localized prostate cancers are designed to totally remove or destroy the cancer. The prostate cancer can be removed by surgery or destroyed by radiation therapy. Surgery may be performed open or laparoscopically. Radiation therapy may be delivered through the implantation of radioactive seeds or external beam techniques.

A colonoscopy examines the entire length of the lower bowel, and provides the opportunity to remove and biopsy polyps.

The National Library of Medicine at NIH has developed a Clinical Trials database to provide patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies. There is some evidence that thyroid cancer may have spread more by the time it is detected in patients who have had radiation treatment. However, the usual treatment for thyroid cancer is still very effective and survival rates are similar to patients that have not received radiation treatment.

Many children with cancer survive and live long productive lives, but the late effects of cancer treatment have been a concern for many years. Results of a recent national study revealed that survivors of childhood cancer face a higher risk of getting new cancers in early adulthood, apparently related to chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The most common new cancers occurred in the breast, thyroid and brain.

No. Only about 5-10% of all cancer is inherited. Most cancers are due to an accumulation of genetic mistakes in our cells over the course of time. This is part of the natural aging process, which is why most cancers occur at older ages. The majority of people who develop cancer acquire genetic mistakes over the course of a lifetime. In inherited forms of cancer, a genetic mistake, or mutation is carried in reproductive cells that are passed on from one generation to the next.

The "current wisdom" is that cancer begins with a single cell having abnormal genetic instructions. Over time, it (or one of its descendant cells) acquires additional injuries. Finally, a cell's abnormal instructions cause it to do abnormal things --- such as dividing too often, or forming a tumor, or migrating from its appropriate location to live and divide elsewhere in the body (metastasis). These cancerous activities are done by living cells, whose abnormalities can be caused by radiation.

Such an individual can request an outpatient evaluation with the specialists at the Life After Cancer Care Clinic. Such consultation is likely to include a complete history and physical examination with special attention to cancer and cancer-treatment specific potential problems and additional tests or consultations with M. D. Anderson specialists depending on the individual patient needs.

While there are probably physicians using this therapy, none would admit it out of fear that they would be charged with using an unapproved drug or procedure. In every state, local medical societies set what is called the "standard of care." If a doctor fails to follow this standard they stand to lose their license and even go to jail.

We treat many types of cancer including (though not limited to) breast, lung, prostate, gynecological, gastrointestinal, colorectal, liver, stomach, pancreatic and hematological cancers such as leukemia, Hodgkin's and other lymphomas.

There is only one substance that can unlock the B17 molecule and release the cyanide. That substance is an enzyme called "beta-glucosidase", which is called the "unlocking enzyme". When B17 comes in contact with this enzyme in the presence of water, not only is the cyanide released, but also the benzaldehyde, which is highly toxic by itself.

Skin cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in the United States. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (nonmelanoma skin cancer) are the most common forms of skin cancer, but are easier to cure than melanoma. The number of new cases of skin cancer appears to be increasing each year. The number of deaths due to skin cancer, however, is fairly small.
