Hearing loss does not affect all frequencies or pitches equally in most cases. The vowel sounds of speech (a, e, i, o, u) are louder and lower-pitched, and are therefore easier to hear. Providing you've got a clean source signal, analog recordings generally sound fine, giving nearly inaudible differences from digital ones.
