Frequently Asked Questions

Is chewing on dew's claws lethal for dogs?

Vet FAQ
The dew's claw is a claw which is no longer used and which still contains bones in some dogs, but only consists of skin and claw in others. The claw has no function, but the dog can hurt himself on it in some circumstances. Therefore, this claw is generally removed by a small operation. If the dog is chewing on them, then these claws bother him. He cannot die from this but the claws can become infected and have to be treated. Bring your dog to a vet.

What are dew claws?

Frequently Asked ?s
Your pet has four toes on each foot and one that was at one time a "thumb." This thumb hasn’t been used, so it has changed form and become the small growth on the inside of the leg. Your pet may have dew claws only on his two front feet, or he may have them on all four. Great Pyrenees and Briards require double dew claws on both back legs to be shown in a dog show circuit.

Do you remove the Dew Claws?

Lovin2doodle Goldendoodles FAQ
Answer: No, we do not have the Dew Claws removed from the puppies. Removal of the Dew Claw is not recommended by the Veterinarian especially if the puppy will run and play a lot. The Dew Claw located above the foot is needed when the dogs run and turn. The claw will dig in and allow them to maneuver without falling. The trimming of this claw is the same as the other claws and requires no additional care.

Question: Dew claws, should they stay or should they go?

Common Husky Questions - Siberian Husky Club of Great Britai...
I don't think there are many vets who will remove front ones anyhow, although I may be wrong on this. Our import 'Ditto' , hasn't got any on the front (or back!) so I'm guessing this is common practice to remove them in other countries. I think it depends on how well attached they are. If they are very loose, poorly attached and floppy, (i have seen some that stick out at right angles from the leg!) then they could cause problems cos they could be prone to catching.

Do you dock the tails and remove the dew claws? Why or why not?

Pierce Schnoodles - Breeder FAQ
Yes, when we take our newborn pups to see the veterinarian at two days of age, we have the tails docked and dew claws removed. We prefer the look of a docked tail and the vet recommends dew claw removal. Both procedures are quick and straightforward and recovery time is minimal.

I've heard double merle dogs referred to as "lethal whites," why is that?

Frequently Asked Questions at My Aussies
I hate this term. It's very inaccurate and misleading. First of all, if an organism is "lethal," it is either stillborn, or dies shortly after birth, and there is no way to keep it alive. There are some genes like this present in horses (certain types of paint coloring). So, since most double merle dogs survive into old age in as good of health as any other dog, that's wrong.

Most chewing gums innocuously list "gum base" as one of their ingredients, masking the fact that petroleum, lanolin, glycerin, polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, petroleum wax, stearic acid, and latex may be among the components. Because of standards of identity for items such as gum base and flavoring, manufacturers are not required to list everything in their product.

Question: What about chewing?

Shiba Inu Questions and Answers
About the chewing... They need to do it. Provide lots of safe (not rawhide) chewing materials during the first year and supervise!!!! Puppies need to chew to develop strong teeth and jaws. A raw, meaty bone is the greatest puppy pacifier known. Provide the pup a safe place to chew, where he won't be interupted or stain the carpet. Use "Bitter Orange" (expensive, but worth it) on items you wish unchewed.

How do I stop my puppy from biting or chewing?

Frequently Asked Questions about Toy, Tiny, and Teacup Poodl...
All puppies go through the teething process. Make sure you have plenty of chew toys available for your puppy to chew. When your puppy gets hold of something you don't want him or her to chew, take it away, tell the dog “no,” and always give them something they CAN have to chew. Puppies begin losing their baby teeth around five or six months of age and then start getting their adult teeth. After this process, they should not have the urge to chew on things as much.

What is Glycerin Dew?

Ask Freesia Girl!! - Serenquility Bath & Body FAQ
On warm and humid days or in places where a lot of moisture is present sometimes you might see a crystal "dew" or "sweating" on your glycerin soaps. This is normal and is a natural process of glycerin soap. The glycerin in the soap actually pulls moisture out of the air, making for a soap that is not drying to the skin and does not affect the quality of the soap in any way. Washing with the soap removes the surface dew.

Can GHB be lethal?

Life-Enhancement.com Article - Print
Not likely. Everybody reported to have been "poisoned" with GHB has "fully recovered," even a man who took 15 tablespoons (50-75 gm). There have been no long-term consequences identified in any of these cases despite close observation by attending physicians. It is exceedingly difficult to ingest the 50 to 150 gm that might threaten life. In high doses, for example, GHB causes nausea and vomiting, which strongly limits the maximum amount that a person can consume.

Are fire ants as lethal as killer bees?

This is kind of like comparing apples to oranges. They both attack en masse and can both cause fatal allergic reactions, but that's where the similarities end. Africanized bees can overwhelm and kill even healthy non-allergic people, but encounters are rather rare. Fire ants can't overwhelm a healthy, mobile person and even hundreds of stings are rarely fatal. But, fire ant mounds are extremely common.
