Hurricane Isabel in 2003 caused waves to wash out parts of highway 12 all over the Outer Banks, and created a small series of inlets on Hatteras Island. It was the most powerful storm to hit the Outer Banks since the pier opened in 1977.

They are used as reference points for the video cameras. Using them we can get the geometry of the image. This takes a horizontal image and makes it vertical, creating an aerial map of the beach.

Hand wash in warm or cold soapy water and AIR DRY. You can also machine wash warm or cold with your regular detergent, preferably in a laundry bag so they do not inadvertently get placed in the dryer-AIR Dry ONLY. Wash frequently (depending on use) to keep the insole free of dirt/grime and also to keep bacteria/odor free.

ION Storm was a game developer founded in 1996 that released four games before being shut down. Their games were called Dominion: Storm over Gift 3, Daikatana, Deus Ex, and Anachronox. The Deus Ex developers stayed together, renamed their studio, and are now working on a sequel.

Several places will have storm information. The local National Weather Service office in the area of the storm conducts damage surveys from severe weather events. The Storm Prediction Center documents storm reports, but the official designation is left up to the local National Weather Service Office. The NOAA National Climatic Data Center maintains the official national database for weather.

We don???t yet know. To date there is no accurate process to date sand. Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating may provide us with some clues, but so far the results at Great Sand Dunes are very inconclusive. The OSL process determines how much time has passed since quartz crystals were last exposed to sunlight. As we currently understand it, the dunes are probably thousands of years old, not millions, and may date to when Lake Alamosa disappeared.

Sand surface temperatures can reach over 140° F on summer afternoons, so be sure to take boots or tennis shoes (sandals are not adequate) when hiking on the dunes. When storms approach, come down off the dunes as lightning will often strike the dune mass. When lightning hits the sand, it fuses or melts particles of sand together, resulting in a ???fulgurite??? (latin for lightning rock). Fulgurites, like all natural objects in the park, are protected and should be left for others to view.

Grass and leaves repeatedly swept or washed into the storm drains can become a breeding ground for rodents and insects and can clog drains, causing localized flooding. Plant matter washed into bodies of water deprives aquatic life of oxygen as well. Soil is easily washed into storm drains when it rains and is a serious problem at many construction areas. This sediment clouds water and destroys aquatic habitats.

The Caribbean weather in the summer is usually beautiful and storms during our program dates are rare. If there is a larger storm we know about it days in advance and take the necessary precautions. Can't guarantee that we won't and no refund if we do. However, we do have a storm shelter that is located north of the petting pens. The Sheriff's Department is really good about notifying us of severe weather. Should this happen, we will notify people to be watchful and take appropriate action.

Unlikely, they have special claws and can withstand the most vigorous scrubbing. Unfortunately you cannot make an attractive head unattractive by washing alone, all you will get is a very clean attractive head!

It is fine to wash slings made with our rings in a regular washer. They can also be dried in the drier. You should check your sling and rings carefully after they are washed and dried and before you wear them again.

DermaSilk can be washed as often as necessary. With some forms of weeping eczema it may be necessary to wash it more than once a day to remove any discharge.

We recommend hand washing using a very mild LIQUID HAND SOAP. DO NOT use any detergents, delicate washes, wool washes or antibacterials. These can leach out the natural oils and the leather could become stiff. We also advise against washing the entire slipper unless it becomes absolutely necessary, as some colour can be lost when washed. Please note that some stains, such as heavy foods, oil or nail polish will not come out with washing.

Thinsulate is made of many tiny fibers that do not absorb water, it is important to wash it properly if you are to maintain the hydrophobic characteristics of the fibers. Many people wash the insulation sparingly and layer a liner under it (such as the Stretchliner 100) to absorb sweat and extend the time between washings. When you do need to wash the Thinsulate, wash on the gentle cycle, preferably in a front loading washing machine, and use vinegar or bleach instead of soap.

Fine dirt particles become suspended in water and can clog fish gills. Then the dirt settles out, it can cover spawning areas. Pollutants, such as fertilizer, grease, and pesticides attach to dirt particles which enter the storm system along with the dirt.

Most recent call is an unbilled call (Calls that have not yet been billed). For the post paid account, the user can see up to 30 days unbilled calls and they can view calls made as early as 3 days ago. However, the user cannot make a dispute on the unbilled.

Dunes are the island's first line of defense against waves and storms. The beach grass helps keep the sand in place, thus maintaining the dune line. Beach grass is very fragile and will die if people step on it. Beach grass also has an intricate underground root system so that even though you may not step on the plant above ground, you can still destroy the grass by crushing its underground roots. To help avoid this problem, please use only the designated crossovers to get on the beach.

The dunefield and most of the adjacent Sangre de Cristo Mountains are federally designated wilderness: the dunes were made a wilderness by Congress in 1976, and the Sangres in 1993. With ever-increasing urbanization and mechanization, protected wildernesses are becoming more and more important as places where natural systems can go on unimpaired, and where visitors can enjoy the natural world without the roar of engines, oil stains, or tire tracks.

In a straight line, it is about a mile, but it is best climbed in a zig-zag fashion, following the ridge lines. Generally, it takes the average person an hour or so to reach the top of the first ridge.

While the immediate surface of the dunes changes constantly, the main dunefield as a whole is fairly stable. Comparing recent photographs with photographs taken in the late 1800???s reveals that the major dunes have maintained their overall shape and position. Vegetation in the surrounding area prevents significant migration of new sand into the main dunefield.

Sand camping is allowed on certain Siuslaw National Forest lands. Different regulations apply to areas open to motorized use and areas closed to motorized use on the Forest. For areas closed to motorized use, camping is allowed in most areas within certain guidelines. The park is located in the Northwest coast line in Benzie and Leelanau counties of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The Philip A. Hart Visitor Center is about 25 miles west of Traverse City on M-72 in Empire. The Directions page provides an area map and directions.
