Courses which are not approved by TDLR as continuing education courses can not be used for license renewal. If the college course is a TDLR approved continuing education course, then the course hours can be used for license renewal. However, the courses must be taken during the period of the license being renewed.

Courses/activities attended by licensees in another state which are approved by another board of nursing are considered to be acceptable continuing education activities. The nurse will need to add these classes to their individual online continuing education record.

Continuing education became mandatory January 1, 1995. Every year, dentists must complete 15 hours and hygienists must complete 6 hours. In addition, every licensee is required to maintain current CPR certification. The number of hours completed each year is reported on the license renewal form and no documentation of course work should be sent to the Board’s office.

You must have 15 contact hours of education in pharmacology related to the scope of practice within the two-year renewal cycle. Effective July 1, 2000, each licensee must certify that he/she has obtained the required continuing medical education hours in order to renew. Each physician must have at least 60 Category 1 hours within the preceding three years. Continuing and Professional Education courses must be formally dropped via a signed drop form, just like main campus courses using the Schedule Adjustment Form.

To be eligible for a refund, courses must be dropped before 15% of the scheduled course time has passed. Tuition refunds/waivers will not be made for courses dropped after this date. Please be aware that informing your instructor of your intention to drop, or failure to attend or participate in the class, or failure to pay your tuition bill, is not evidence of an official drop and will not result in tuition charges being waived.

Continuing education contact hours must be completed on or before May 31, 2006. The present biennium period is June 1, 2004 through May 31, 2006. Continuing education must be completed before you renew your license. When you renew your license, you are affirming you have met all requirements for renewal including the continuing education requirements.

No, a licensee shall be exempt from continuing education requirements for the first annual renewal following the date of initial licensure. Upon written request from the licensee explaining the circumstances, the Board may grant an exemption or waiver in cases of certified illness or undue hardship. You may request an inactive license from the Board, beginning with the renewal of March 31, 2004.

A certified electrician may take continuing education from; a community college or public school district or public educational institution, or a state-licensed private post-secondary institution under contract with a public educational institution, community college or public school district that offers classes relevant to the certification category.

Every person holding an Idaho license as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Professional Counselor or a Marriage and Family Therapist must annually complete twenty (20) contact hours of continuing education prior to license renewal, of which 3 hours must be in ethics.

Thirty-hours (30) of continuing education are required per renewal term for licenses issued prior to 1/1/92; those licenses issued after 1/1/92 will need to complete twenty-five hours (25) per year for each of the first four years; thereafter, they will complete thirty-hours (30) hours for every two-year term.
