Mustek scanners have had many different interface card types and revisions. Some TWAIN driver installations ask you to specify the type of interface card you are using. Mustek now offers a PCI SCSI card for several current model scanners: the P 12000 SP, P 1200 LS, P A3 SP and P 1200 A3 Pro. Customers with P 1200 SP Pro and P PowerPRO scanners may wish to try Adaptec's 2902 PCI SCSI card. Mustek Technical Support cannot provide troubleshooting assistance with this or other third-party cards.

The TWGS-2B GAL was a DMA fix Applied Engineering issued for the board. It is an absolute requirement for Transwarp to work at all with at least some RamFAST SCSI boards (e.g. the revision C boards). With Applied Engineering long since out of business and the GAL virtually impossible to duplicate by convential means, that leaves no good source for replacement GALs.

There are three 'popular' options: The Apple Revision C, The Apple Hi- Speed, and the RamFAST. The Revision C is older and a bit slower because it does not utilize direct memory access (DMA), a feature that the Hi-Speed and RamFAST have. The Apple cards are no longer made or supported; but, you may be able to buy one at a swap meet. The Sequential Systems RamFAST has DMA plus an on-board cache of either 256kB or 1MB, making it the fastest interface available.

The Apple High Speed SCSI card has a set of Dip Switches on it; the Rev C doesn't, and the ROM chip date is older than 1989, if it shows at all. The Apple SCSI cards older than REV C don't work in my IIe or IIgs...... The Apple High Speed SCSI card has a printed label on one of the chips showing the name "Sandwich II" on it.

I have had a Zip Drive hooked to a CMS SCSI card (1990 ROM) for 2-3 years in my IIgs without a hitch. Basically you just go into the setup for the CMS card. It will partition the drive into 32 meg sections which you can access two at a time-- It makes three on a Zip disk. Then once GS/OS is booted it tells you that the disk is unreadable and asks if you want it formatted and you hit ok for each virtual drive and there you have it.

No. The 1044's USB interface cannot be connected with general USB equipment, other than computer. The 1044 is working as slave equipment for host computer. You can do anything to all files on the internal HD of 1044, including backup or data convert. It looks very convenience, but please be careful not to destroy any important system files. Windows (OS) sets the read only file attribute when you drag & drop the file from CD-ROM, then 1044 displays error massage.

Mustek owners have successfully installed their scanners using a variety of third party SCSI cards; however, Mustek's Technical Support Department does not provide expertise on installation of SCSI cards that did not come from Mustek. The newer AIC789x series Adaptec chips are supported under the CAM SCSI framework which made it's debut in 3.0. Patches against 2.2-STABLE are in ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/development/cam/. The SCSI port and the CD-ROM are independant. The CD-ROM is not SCSI-compatible and cannot be accessed through the SCSI port.

I had many problems when I first started with the Iomega Zip on my GS and it isn't the most reliable thing - But it works. Attach a terminator adapter to the back of the remaining port on your external HD - The Zipdrive has a weak termination and requires another terminator source. Last, if you are working on the GS for a long time and suddenly the Zipdrive Icons don't pop up when you load Finder, simply eject the zipdisk and push it back into the drive.

The MPR card in a laptop computer creates a UART serial interface that acts like a conventional COM port, logically identical to the serial printer or modem ports on older computers. When the card is inserted into the computer, the operating system assigns this logical port to an available port number, which could differ from one computer to another and could change on subsequent insertions if other serial devices are connected to the computer.

There is a way to use ESDI drives with an SCSI interface (such as a PC with an SCSI card or a Sun workstation). It seems that Adaptec makes a translator which allows you to connect ESDI drives to SCSI controllers. I have an Emulex MD-21 which is the device you want. It is an ESDI to SCSI converter. It controls both 10 and 15 mbit/sec drives and provides a SCSI-1 interface on the other side. The interface will handle two ESDI drives as logical units 0 and 1.

Your best choice is the version 3.01f RamFAST. Along with good speed, Direct Memory Access support, and on-ROM utilities, you also get an interface which permits ejecting a Zip disk and mounting a new Zip disk from the System 6 Finder. (There is no need to restart the system in order to swap disks.) The same can be said of the Apple High Speed SCSI.

Only Ultra SCSI (8 bit) drives can be connected internally or externally. Ultra SCSI 16-bit drives have to be connected via a PCI Card. Ultra SCSI (16 bit) can be used with a card but a performance gap of 40 MB/s exists since Ultra SCSI (16 bit) offers only 40 MB/s (max). Ultra 2 SCSI (LVD) is highly recommended if planning to gain maximum performance with a PCI card.
