Very! Sebago Lake is relatively young, as lakes go, is underlain by tough Sebago granite, and its watershed is mostly forested. The greatest threats to any lake's cleanliness come from human activities. Sebago Lake is the deepest lake in New England and contains almost a trillion gallons of water. This doesn't mean it's invincible, but it takes more effort to pollute that much water. Put all these factors together and you have one of the nation's finest water supply lakes.

For years it was commonly believed that the deep hole of Sebago Lake reached down to 316 feet. A recent survey, however, has measured the maximum depth at 307 feet. Still, this makes Sebago Lake the deepest lake in all of New England. If you were standing on the bottom of the "deep hole" in Big Bay, your feet would be 41 feet below sea level!

Resist the urge to feed ducks or any water fowl. "People" food is far less nutritious to a duck than its normal diet. Handouts may cause ducks to become tame and more exposed to natural predators. Migration could be delayed. Ducks are perfectly capable of finding food, unless they have become overly dependent on human handouts. Duck feeding causes problems for people, too. Duck waste may contain bacteria and parasites that are unhealthy for humans.

Sebago holds the world record for the biggest landlocked salmon ever caught; a 22.5 pound fish hauled in by Edward Blakey in 1908. The lake also holds the record for the largest Whitefish in Maine, a 7.5 pounder caught by Neil Sullivan in 1958. However, it is believed the biggest fish ever caught in Sebago was a 27-pound Lake Trout (Togue), caught by Bill Day in 1996. Do not throw trash, lawn or garden clippings and debris into the waterway. Have these materials picked up at your curb or take them to a proper landfill or composting facility. Leave a buffer of natural vegetation (plants, marshes or trees) between the water and your house. If there is no natural vegetation, do not apply fertilizers or pesticides within at least 25 feet of the water’s edge or the wetland.

Yes, there is no waste disposal from any houseboats or marinas on Dale Hollow Lake (unlike some other lakes). Dale Hollow was voted, "The Most Beautiful Lake in the Southeast." One outdoor writer said that, with Lake Tahoe, Dale Hollow is the cleanest lake in America.

We scrub the exhibit islands with a veterinary disinfectant every day. We also vacuum the entire exhibit and scrub any areas where algae builds up.

There are up to 23 different minerals in Soap Lake water. The most abundantly occurring are calcium, magnesium, potassium, silicon, and sodium. At various times over the last 90 years, water quality assays have been conducted to test the mineral content of Soap Lake water. Records show that the mineral content of the lake has declined.

Through a sixty million year geologic process punctuated with shifts in the earths crust resulting in molten lava escaping from fissures, then a period of floods, more earth changes and several more floods. Ultimately, the landscape was covered with basalt rock that has been scarped, carved and channeled by the remarkable power of water. A landscape truly created by fire and water.

Answer: The Lake of Fire, also called Gehenna (The Valley of Hinnom) was literally a large valley outside the city of Jerusalem serving as the city's garbage dump. In this pit fires were burning continually in order to destroy refuse, dead animals, and even the bodies of the homeless; the ever-rising smoke from this valley was legendary in the first century.

We don't know yet how cleanup and reconstruction will impact the Lake, River, and Gulf but we are putting a priority on working with our state and Federal partners to: 1) collect data (water quality and sediment), 2) take proactive mitigation measures (such as booms and aeration devices); and 3) take additional measures based on new data and adaptive management.

In the summer, the lake "stratifies" or develops layers of different temperatures that do not mix. Perhaps you've noticed the effect? have you ever kicked into a cooler layer while swimming at the warm surface? As fall nights chill the lake's surface, the top layer of water cools, becomes heavier, and eventually sinks. Water that was at the bottom of the lake is displaced? it rises to the top, bringing with it lots of bottom nutrients.

Mono Lake contains about 280 million tons of dissolved salts. The concentration of salts in the water depends directly on how much water is in the lake. Before water diversions began in 1941, salinity was about 50 grams per liter (g/l). At the lowest lake level in 1982, it was 99 g/l. Currently it is about 78 g/l. Once it rises to its stabilization level in the next 20 years, salinity will average 69 g/l. For comparison, the ocean is about 31.5 g/l, or 3.5% dissolved solids by weight.

The two most famous are Fair Winds to Java and High Plains Drifter. The first was shot in the 1950s on the Negit Islets, and scaffolding remains can still be seen. The second was shot on the south shore and nothing remains of the set. top Since people rarely see boats on the lake, it is common to think they are not allowed. Despite the fact that usually the only boats seen are canoes and kayaks, there are no restrictions on the types of boats one can take on the lake.

Mono Lake enjoys a greater measure of protection today than at any time since water diversions began. In 1994, the California State Water Resources Control Board issued its decision on Mono Lake. The Water Board’s Decision 1631 (D.1631) set minimum flows for the streams, set limits on water exports designed to allow the lake level to rise and stabilize at an elevation of 6,392 feet above sea level, and ordered the L.A.

Lake Tahoe is located in Northern California. The Lake is divided in half by the California-Nevada State line. The camp is on the northwest end of the Lake, about 40 minutes from Reno, Nevada and 3 1/2 hrs drive from San Francisco.

There are several reasons for the name Soap Lake. The mineral laden water has a slick, almost soapy feel to it. It is also very easy to float in the water. Another reasons is the white foam that appears along the shore of the lake after a strong wind. This phenomenon is usually observed in the fall and the spring when the air temperature is colder than the water temperature.

No one knows for sure. The suds, may appear as a band of white froth or clumps of swirling white suds up to a foot high along the shore of the lake after a strong wind blows, usually during fall and spring months.

Soap Lake mud can be found in various locations on both the north and south end of the lake. There are different “grades” of Soap Lake mud, the best being the creamiest, almost jell like in your hand, jet black variety that has a strong sulfur odor. There are several locations on the East Beach as well as the cove - behind the library where it can be obtained by diving in shallow water.

There are no public beaches on the north side of Lake Wisconsin. While the lake provides several great recreational opportunities, the flow of the Wisconsin River through the lake causes challenges for swimmers if they are on the main channel. Devil's Lake State Park has a beautiful beach. Take Hwy. 113 to South Lake Road to access the South Shore Beach.

L.A. does not get water out of Mono Lake--because it is salty. Desalination would be extremely expensive and use a tremendous amount of energy. L.A. diverts the freshwater streams that feed the lake--some of the purest water you can find anywhere. Because this reduces the inflow to Mono Lake, less evaporation is replaced, and Mono Lake shrinks. The surface area of Mono Lake is directly related to the amount of water not taken from the Mono Basin. top

All of our instruments are subjected to autoclave sterilization ? the same process that responsible hospitals and dental offices use. The autoclave is spore tested monthly to ensure it is in proper working order and these results are on display on the wall beside the front counter. Items or areas that are impossible to sterilize in this manner are covered by plastic barriers which are disposed of at the end of the procedure.

Special care must be taken with the socket until healing is complete. In the immediate time period after your surgery, the closed eyelid should be wiped gently with a cotton ball moistened with the sterile eye solution given to you when you are discharged; drops or ointment may also be prescribed. This helps to keep the socket free from infection. The healing process usually takes about two to four weeks. When you receive your ocular prosthesis, you may wash your face normally.

You can clean the blades of your skates by wiping them with a towel to keep them dry after using them. Make sure you do this after each wearing. With the material skates are made of, there's not a lot of maintenance and cleaning needed to the boot.
