Once desired results have been achieved, there is no need for future maintenance. However, patients can undergo additional procedures to enhance the density of the hair, or to change the hair line.

We will provide you with a post-operative diet and meal plan to follow for four weeks after your LAP-BAND® System surgery. The diet will help decrease the initial irritation and inflammation around the stomach and allow your band to "settle" into place. At first, you will have only liquids in small amounts. Gradually, you will progress from liquids to soft foods, eventually introducing solid foods back into your diet. The transition to solids is slow and varies among patients.

The day of the procedure, you are requested to keep both eyes closed and rest as much as possible. Every night for a week, you will place the shield over your eye for additional protection. Swimming is not recommended for a month following your procedure unless you wear watertight goggles. Avoid hot tubs for one week. You will use antibiotic drops for one week.

Before closing most incisions, the surgeon blocks the wound with a local anesthetic to minimize the pain on awakening. Also, the patient is frequently given a shot before waking up. A prescription for pain medications (normally Lortab or Percocet) is usually more than adequate for the first two to three days after surgery. Pain is also minimized by the new 'tension free' techniques of hernia repairs that we practice.

Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) is the queasy and unpleasant feeling in the stomach that many people often feel after undergoing a surgical procedure. This type of nausea and vomiting affects 20% to 30% of people depending on the type of procedure and anesthetic used. Not only is post-operative nausea and vomiting distressing, it can also lead to complications after surgery. Kytril can help block the signals that cause nausea and vomiting.

You will be seen as often as necessary, of course, but we generally schedule you for a post-operative follow-up appointment at the Office two weeks after surgery. Then you will see the surgeon at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year post-operatively. In addition, based on your rate of weight loss and your personal weight loss goals, your band may require that you come in for band adjustments.

A prospective double blind controlled trial examined the differences in post-operative split skin graft donor site pain between sites dressed with three differently treated types of dressing; a dry calcium alginate dressing, a saline moistened calcium alginate dressing and a bupivacaine hydrochloride (0.5%) moistened calcium alginate dressing.

Although the short-term effects of weight loss surgery are well understood, there are still questions to be answered about the long-term effects on nutrition and body systems. Nutritional deficiencies that occur over the course of many years will need to be studied. Over time, you will need periodic checks for anemia (low red blood cell count) and Vitamin B12, folate, and iron levels. Follow-up tests will be conducted as needed.

Scrotal swelling occurs in approximately 25% of patients, and patients are advised to apply ice packs to the scrotum for the first five days after the procedure.

The initial dressing should remain in place for a minimum of 5 days prior to beginning the new dressing replacement schedule. In order to maintain the optimal healing environment, it is important to change the dressing every three to five days, for the first 3-4 weeks. The dressing should be saturated with mineral oil. Doing so enables the GRAFTJACKET® Matrix to maintain a moist environment and rapidly incorporate or "take" to the underlying tissue.

No. Even though you may be feeling great, your stomach is still swollen and tender on the inside. It takes approximately four weeks for the stomach to heal completely. We developed the post-op meal plan to help your stomach heal without stress. It only takes one bite of solid food to obstruct the band during this time. In fact, the number one cause of an early slip is eating solid foods before the established timeline.

The garment should be worn for 4 to 6 weeks following liposuction. It will help support the treated areas, reduce swelling, and help prevent seromas and hematomas.

The National Correct Coding Initiative states post operative pain management services are generally provided by the surgeon who is reimbursed under a global payment policy related to the procedure and shall not be reported by an anesthesiologist unless separate, medically necessary services are required that cannot be rendered by the surgeon. In these cases, the surgeon’s medical record must document the reason the care is being referred to an anesthesiologist.

After the medical procedure, the doctor will carefully monitor your condition on a regular basis. Once the doctor is satisfied with your condition you will be released from hospital and driven back to your hotel to begin the recuperation process. During this time your main focus will be on relaxation and rejuvenation.

Any pain or discomfort that may occur in the post-operative period can be relieved with common analgesics.

You will be given three medicines for after surgery: A narcotic pain medicine, a medicine for nausea, and an antibiotic as a preventative measure. It is important that our office is aware of all your drug allergies before your surgery. Narcotic pain medicine may make you nauseous, lightheaded, or even constipated to name a few side effects. The most important thing is to wean yourself off of your pain medications as soon as you can as your pain allows.

It is not painful. The following day of the intervention the patient will have a slightly inflamed area in the face. Painkillers, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories are prescribed for a short period.

These instructions will be given in several occasions: at your pre-op visit with the anaesthetist, in your document holder (which is useful to keep all the documentation regarding the operation) The presence of an adult is required to take you to your place and stay with you during the night after the operation.

Yes. Allow at least three months between the operation and treatment, or wait until the skin is healed completely. Do not treat scars that still bleed, are infected or look like it has not healed completely. You can treat scars on breasts after a breast lift or reduction, but NOT when the lady has had silicone implants. The reason for this is that sometimes women have complications with their implants, i.e. they can leak, burst or form capsules.

You should bear in mind that you will go through several phases before the desired result is eventually achieved. Edemas (swelling), ecchymoses (black-and-blue or purple spots, or areas, where blood has escaped into the tissues from ruptured blood vessels), and difficulty breathing are common to all patients during the first days; obviously, these postoperative events occur to a greater degree in some patients than in others. We hope you will be in the latter group. If not, do not worry.

Wearing a high quality post operative compression garment can help you during the recovery process in the following ways: Reduce swelling (edema) and flush potentially harmful fluids from your body- the garment will provide compression on the skin that will push body fluids away from the skin, helping to reduce swelling and aiding in flushing fluids from your body. Flushing fluids from your body can help reduce bruising and the risk of infection during the healing process.

Photographs of patients are confidential and may not be freely shown. Some patients are happy to have their photographs shown and Mr Solomons uses these for lectures, workshops and other teaching sessions. It is well to remember that surgeons who show photographs of patients will only show their best results. The result usually achieved in another patient may not be an attainable goal for you!
