When should I come to the hospital?

BirthPlace 509-332-2541
We generally encourage moms to come to the hospital when they’re having contractions every five minutes that last about 60 seconds AND THAT HURT. If you’re able to easily ignore your contractions—you can walk and talk through them, it’s probably not time to come yet. There are some exceptions, though. If you are group B strep positive, you need to talk to you doctor about when he or she wants you to come to the hospital.

My Services
This can vary from client to client. In most cases, the client is required to reach me by phone in early labor from home. Once in early labor, the client can labor at home as long as she would like and I am available at no extra charge for as much phone time and advice as necessary prior to meeting at the hospital. Together we can discuss options for meeting at the hospital. I occasionally meet clients at home who are interested in laboring there.

When should I come to the hospital for the planned surgery ?

Pain and Control Pain
Generally speaking, you should arrive in the hospital about 2 to 3 hours prior to the planned surgery. If you need additional testing e.g. Echocardiogram, you may have to be there even earlier. The reason we ask you to be there 2 to 3 hours prior is for the time it takes to complete the admission, pre-op nurse's evaluation & medical history taking etc. Sometimes the surgery is moved up too. You will be informed of the time you need to be in the hospital.
