Yes. You will be required to use PowerPoint in many of your classes to give presentations and create instructional units. You can purchase PowerPoint separately, but it will probably be less expensive to purchase the Student version of Microsoft Office which includes PowerPoint.

Office does not come as standard with any Microsoft Operating system. We don't stock or supply any software... our specialisation is in hardware. Again, if you require software, we recommend you search for it on eBay (simply enter "Microsoft Office" as your search keywords). We are unable to change the Operating System advertised. If a unit is advertised with a specific Operating System, it's because it is prelicensed with it, so we are unable to change it to a different one.

You don't need Powerpoint software if you are only running EasiSlides in Database Mode. If you wish to run Powerpoint presentations, Powerpoint 2000 is the minimum version required. Many of the animations used in our programs are not compatible with PowerPoint 2000 or older which can cause conflicts. ETS programs are designed to default to the viewer if the computer does not have PowerPoint XP/2002 or 2003. To make modifications to the file you will need to use either of those two versions. The next version of PowerPoint is due to be released in early 2007.

We have developed and deployed Presenter primarily using PowerPoint XP. We have created a separate version of DeckBuilder which is compatible with PowerPoint 2000. If you don't have the appropriate Microsoft software you can still view the files (Powerpoint, Word, Excel) by downloading the FREE viewer from Microsoft. If you do not have a full-featured office package on your computer, I highly recommend purchasing MS Office through Indiana University. Through the IU license agreement, you can get the full version of Office for $10. This package normally sells for several hundred dollars! If you already own Word 2003/2007, Excel 2003/2007, Outlook 2003/2007, and PowerPoint 2003/2007 (which come with MS Office 2003/2007) you do not need to purchase the MS Office 2003/2007 Professional product that includes Access 2003/2007. Access, a database, is useful to have, but not presently required in most courses. The new PowerPoint viewer displays the End User License Agreement (EULA) once when it is run for the first time on any system. Secure Pack honours this behaviour and does not alter it any manner. The user has to accept the agreement for the show to proceed.

OneNote 2003 was only sold as a separate product - much as Visio or Project are currently. It doesn't require the Office suite, though features like "Create an Outlook Task" obviously won't work if you don't have Outlook 2003. OneNote 2007 is included in two of the suites: Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition and Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate.

The topics covered in the book mostly suit all versions of Word from Word 97, through Word 2000, Word 2002 (XP) and Word 2003. Some features are only available in Word 2003 but that doesn't effect most of the coverage.
