It's current status is that it is a lot better than a lot of open source projects are on their first release. The central window manager has been rock solid for quite a while. On the other hand, as it is yet to be released software, everything is subject to change without notice.

MetaL has been used in real world applications since the beginning of its development. However, it was decided that it would be released as an Open Source project only when the proof of concept is made. The proof of concept consists of generating the same program in different target languages from the same MetaL source code. The proof of concept was made in early 2002 by generating either in PHP and in Java a class and a test program to generate arbitrary XML documents.

The progress of the Metastorage project is also recorded in a XML/RSS based feed available on the URL below. This feed includes not only the newly added features, but also the features that were added to the to do list. There is a current outbreak of a type of avian flu referred to as H5N1 that has been confirmed among poultry and other birds. At this time, there have not been any people with H5N1 (cases) in the United States. There have been a small number of human cases of H5N1 in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Most of these cases resulted from direct or close contact with infected poultry. Spread of avian flu from person-to-person has been very limited.

The laws of Canada do not require the DTIA to become incorporated as a Not for Profit organization; however, the DTIA is currently working towards becoming an incorporated not-for-profit in keeping with Canadian legal requirements for incorporation.
