Yes. H-1B holders can bring thier spouse and minor children to live with them in U.S. under H dependents visa (H-4). However, H-4 visa holders can not work in U.S.  Spouse here on an H-4 visa must have his or her own H-1B visa to work legally in U.S. My daughter is a US citizen and currently in the medical field. She recently got married and had a baby.

The children and spouse may enter as H-4 derivatives, but will not be authorized to work until they convert to permanent resident status through other avenues or obtain a separate sponsorship for H-1B Visa. The children will be allowed to attend school.

Spouses and children of F-1 visa students can join them on F-2 visa status. The F-1 student needs to request F-2 dependent I-20s from the IPS Office. You must also provide evidence of $4,000 for spouse and $3,000 for each child’s expenses, passport names and addresses to the IPS Office so an I-20 can be issued for each dependent.
