Rehabilitation is the process of helping a person achieve his/her maximum functional potential. This process begins immediately. Once memory of the events of the day begins to be restored, the rate of recovery often appears to be much more rapid. However, many problems may persist for a long time. These may be problems related to movement, memory, attention, slowness of thinking, difficulty with complex thinking, difficulties with speech and language, behavior problems and personality changes.

The pain-relief and anti-inflammatory phases of rehabilitation should start immediately after an injury or surgery. Delaying rehabilitation is generally not beneficial. The strengthening phase of rehabilitation generally starts two weeks after surgery.

When I walked into the locker room at work, I realized something was wrong. I couldn't speak. I tried to pick up my lock, but my right hand couldn't grab it. Barring any contraindications to electrotherapy (i.e. pacemakers, pregnancy) a patient can begin FES training as soon as he or she is medically stable. Therapy can be implemented throughout the continuum of care. Preferably, therapy can begin during in-patient rehabilitation, with the goal for patients to use the device in a "therapy-directed" home program.

The Rehabilitation Division is the designated state unit for the Vocational Rehabilitation program. It also coordinates and oversees three diverse program units that serve people with disabilities. In the early phases of rehabilitation, the focus is on maximizing the natural recovery process. In the post acute phase of rehabilitation, the emphasis is on functional skills retraining.

Cardiac Rehabilitation is just what it says it is, rehabilitating your heart muscle after heart, thoracic or vascular surgery. It is basically a very good fitness program that is organized at established Cardiac Rehab Centers, but also can be individualized to you and done at home thereby eliminating travel. DORS also supports Marylandâ??s employers who are looking for job-ready qualified workers who contribute to the workplace and the bottom line. DORS believes that people with disabilities should be prepared and able to work alongside people who do not have disabilities.

Physical rehabilitation should begin immediately after surgery, beginning with icing inflamed tissues, and in the following days, incorporating passive range of motion, electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy, and massage therapy. Hydrotherapy is begun after suture removal.
