AEPi is one of the largest fraternities on UF's campus (it is, we have real numbers to prove it). In addition, it is one of the most active and involved fraternities on campus, involved in more activities, groups and other organizations then you could imagine. Joining AEPi, you get more than just a bunch of brothers, you get a family. It's a good thing you asked, because now we get a chance to gloat over being the winners of the Governor's Cup, awarded to the fraternity with the highest overall GPA. We at AEPi are strong believers in the ideology that studying is a crucial part of college (sorry, but it is; without good grades, you might not be at the University very long, and then it's fun for no one, so we'd prefer to keep you around longer).

From Blair Dowling: Pi Mu Epsilon is a national mathematics honor society with high academic requirements for membership. The Georgia Tech chapter is relatively small (a membership list is up at www.cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/pme) and organizes several events throughout the year. All of our events (other than chapter meetings/induction/elections) are open to the general student body, as well as faculty/staff where appropriate.

Membership with Sigma Alpha Epsilon begins at an active chapter or colony at a college or university. Existing members extend invitations to new members and pledge them during a pledge term not to exceed 12 weeks. Pledgeship assimilates new members to the active chapter and prepares them to make contributions to advance the ideals of the organization and chapter.

The Pi Alpha Honor Society was organized in 2004 by the Physician Assistant Education Association (formerly the Association of Physician Assistant Programs) for the promotion and recognition of significant academic achievement, leadership, research, community/professional service, and the encouragement of a high standard of character and conduct among physician assistant (PA) students and graduates.

The motto of Pi Alpha is "Scholarship, Service, Leadership." The organization is committed to lifelong learning and participation in intellectual life. The seal will be:

Current students of PA programs accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) that have chapter status through Pi Alpha (student membership requires a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated excellence in research, publishing, community/professional service, or leadership activities).

PAEA proudly sponsors Pi Alpha and provides the administrative support to carry out the work of the honor society. Pi Alpha is governed by an advisory committee comprised of a chair, secretary/treasurer, and three members at large - two PA graduates and one PA student - who oversee the work of Pi Alpha and report to PAEA’s Board of Directors.

The volunteer structure has numerous opportunities: on the local level as chapter adviser or house corporation member, regionally as a province archon or province council member, and nationally as a board member or committee member. Less structured volunteer opportunities are also available.

SAE has developed the web-based True Gentleman Initiative (TGI) Program, which is the framework for all educational programming. The program is based on 12-core areas of chapter development and builds partnerships between the chapter, host institution, alumni, parents, and Fraternity Service Center. Each chapter has a complete library of online officer notebooks to store and record officer information, files, and officer goals.

Pledge requirements are stated in the Fraternity Laws, Section 47, stipulating a pledgeship from four to twelve weeks during which a complete course of education prescribed by the chapter shall take place. The Fraternity Laws state that the education should include orientation on the history, laws and traditions of SAE on both national and local levels. Also included is instruction as to standards, culture and gentlemanliness, which are expected of a member of SAE.

SAE encourages all chapters to become involved in their campus and local community through various organizations. The Fraternity’s preferred philanthropy is the Children’s Miracle Network because of its great capacity to impact children’s lives and the proximity of numerous hospitals to active chapters. On April 6, 2002, the Fraternity launched its “True Gentleman Day of Service,” with more than thirty-five chapters participating in a community service program.

Benefits of membership include an environment for the creation of life-long friendships and academic success, a network of more than 190,000 living alumni, numerous leadership and educational programs that complement the goals and objectives of the host institution, a scholarship and loan program offered by the SAE Foundation and a lifetime subscription to the award-winning The Record magazine.

Although Pi Alpha is the official honor society for the PA profession, membership is not just a matter of self-esteem, an item for a resume, or mention in job interviews. It implies a lifelong commitment to learning applied to benefit others. It also represents membership in a community of scholars, "a fellowship of learners, rather than of the learned."

Following induction into the society, students, alumni, faculty, and honorary members may wear the honor society membership pin and honor cord at appropriate events and attend the annual spring reception.

In an era marked by increased emphasis on results and greater accountability, PI is dedicated to improving performance to bring about those results. PI has contributed clear and simple models, assessment tools, methods, practices, performance standards and measures.
