Do I need to be put to sleep through this surgery?
Welcome to the Maryland Knee & Hip CenterNo necessity. You may have a general anesthetic, which most people call 'being put to sleep'. Or you could have a spinal, or epidural anesthetic which would numb your legs but not require you to be asleep. The choice is between you and the anesthesiologist. If you would like, we can have the anesthesiologist call you before surgery to discuss this.
