Frequently Asked Questions

How much of my story will you read?

Zen Pen - F.A.Q.
Most of my training regarding the marketability of stories was as slush editor for Realms of Fantasy. I was only required to read as much as it took to realize whether or not this story was worth paying for. That’s it. While I can of course inform you at which point I was inclined to stop reading, this is generally not the kind of critique people are looking for from me. I will read your entire story, unless problems keep popping up that are consistent and inherently destructive.

Will you read my story?

Catch Yue, Catch Me! - Requests and Submissions FAQ
Most likely. I love stories about Yue, and read as many of them as I can find. However, I am a busy person and a terrible correspondent, so don't expect a reply from me. While I wish that I could offer to proofread and give advice on your story, I can't promise to do any such thing. You see, I already have many obligations of that type to fulfill, and I barely keep up with them, so adding more stories onto the pile would be very difficult.

What makes a story a five star read for you?

VoyForums: RBL Romantica!!
I think the best qualified are those that I just can't put down, no matter how much I dread the thought of the monkeys attacking in the morning. Great plot development, a strong heroine (even if she is a bit damaged), a true hero (even better if he's got some "issues"), and some seriously hot tension and/or love scenes. I can't wait to see what everyone else says. Good question, Beaty. (NT) -- ChrisMM , Thursday, October 18, 08:38:13pm Same as what Chris said.

Comments should go in a separate topic, not in a reply to the story part itself. The only exception to this is for certain short fanfic challenges, where all the challenge responses and comments go in a single topic.

Will you read a story (or part of a story) I've written and tell me what you think of it?

Victoria Hanley: F.A.Q. in English
The only time I would read your story and tell you what I think of it is if you're in one of my writing workshops. If I were to read all the stories people want to send me, I'd have no time to work on my books! But when you're ready, I encourage you to find someone you trust to share your writing with.

How many people hear or read an AP story?

FAQs | The Associated Press
Depending on whether the story ran on the state, national or international wires, more than half the world's population may read, hear or see news from The Associated Press. A story that runs on a state wire will only be seen by newspaper and broadcast members in that state. A story that also "moves" nationally will be seen by AP's 1,700 U.S. newspaper members. This does not mean they will necessarily print the story in the newspaper. AP members have the choice to run stories.

Ken Harding can't read. End of story?

Evolution vs. Creation (Round 15) [Free Republic]
But let's take him seriously anyway. Stepping over his assertion that a Christian perspective is the only evidence for creation, look at the points he makes: We would expect to observe a uniform, worldwide blanket of randomly sorted boulders, cobbles, sand, and silt overlain by a layer of clay. What? Why? No shred of reasoning follows.

When am I going to find time to read each week’s story?

Short Fiction Stories, Gift Subscription, Good Novels,Online...
If you find it difficult to make time to sit in front of the computer and read each week’s story then your best option is to print it out (printing it on scrap paper is a good way to conserve paper). You can then put it in your handbag or backpack or in your car so that you always have something to read when you are out.

When I download a story, I must scroll from left to right to read the entire line. Why ?

Member's FAQ
Turn on "word wrap" in your text reader. If you can't find that option, refer to the documentation that came with your text program. We do not have all documentation for all text programs. Download the free version of winzip....then run its setup program. All should work well once winzip is installed on your system. Any problems with winzip, refer to the winzip's documentation. We do not provide support for winzip or any other non-mrdouble product.

Will you read my script? Can I send you my story idea by email?

Christy Marx: scriptwriter and game designer: writing FAQ pa...
No, I'm sorry, but I must decline to read unsolicited material. That includes email containing unsolicited ideas or attached files. The instant I detect that an email might contain someone's idea or a pitch, I DELETE IT WITHOUT READING IT. There are two reasons. One is time. When I have spare time, there are a lot of other things I want to do with it. Some writers, agents and companies will read for a fee. I'm not interested in doing that, nor could I charge enough to make it worth my time.

How do I make sure people read my story in order?

The Basement - Frequently Asked Questions
There are many things that go into making the perfect subject line. See the end of this question for the proper subject line format. Try to limit the length of the subject line. Some people have mailers/newsreaders that truncate long subject lines, which can create real problems if the story part number is at the end. Or, even worse, some mail programs assume that two (or more) posts with the same subject line are identical, and replace the first one with the second one.

Will you read my story, all 600 uncut pages of it, and help me get it published?

Lori Foster- faqs
No. Please don't ask. Don't even ask me to read your synopsis or your first chapter or even your cover letter. I strongly believe that voice is the #1 thing that will get you sold. If I read your work and make suggestions, then my voice gets imposed on yours. Also, I don't have time. (See above!) If I could fit 5 more hours in the day, I still wouldn't want to read it, because when I have time to read, I want to grab a book out of my to-be-read pile and have some major fun. Not critique or edit.
