The safest way is to use the Adobe Distiller, available on Girshick. We don't have a distiller on RGMiller and I can't for the life of me figure out why hpux but not IRIX! You will be asked a few questions. It is best to be safe and use the 2.1 compatibility mode. This program also creates an file with an ugly name AcrobatDistiller in your home directory containing your preferences. If you delete this file no harm will be done except that you'll be asked the compatibility questions again.

Click on File, then Print..., then in the dialog box that comes up, choose Print To File (instead of the default Print To Printer). Specify a filename, say foo.ps, and then click OK.

Grace and its X-windows incarnation xmgrace are the latest evolution of the program xmgr for two-dimensional plotting.

Add "ProcessPS=c:\myfolder\mypsapp.exe" to the [Parameters] section of pdf995.ini. Pdf995 will run this specified executable after c:\pdf995\temp.ps has been created. It will wait to convert it to PDF until the specified executable has closed. This feature accommodates insertion of dynamically generated stationery (enables inclusion of time of creation etc.) into PDF documents if the file .\documents and settings\all users\application data\pdf995\stationery.eps or .

You can use standard word processing software (e.g., MS Word, WordPerfect) to prepare the documents for your application. However, you MUST convert ALL documents to portable document format (PDF) files prior to uploading and attaching them to your application. Usually there is someone in the School who knows how to do this and may be able to help you, perhaps using Adobe Acrobat. For PC users, download the free application PDFCreator from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ and install it. Open your file in Word (or whatever other package you used) and select Print. You will see an extra 'printer' in the name box at the top of the print dialog called PDFCreator. Select it and click Print, following the instructions on the screen.

It is often convenient to convert reports into PDF format for distribution to other users who do not have the Reporter software. This functionality is not built-in to Reporter, however if you have Adobe Acrobat installed you can easily create a PDF file from Reporter: If you don't have the full version of Adobe Acrobat you can download a program called PrimoPDF from the following website: http://www.primopdf.com/.

To get a Postscript file from any GS document, press OpenApple-F when clicking "Ok" in the LaserWriter driver. This'll kick out a Postscript file in your */system/drivers folder.

Summary so far with details below: [This is very much a work in progress!] 1. Make sure you have Ghostscript 6.0 or later and tetex-dvips 1.0.6 or later. 2. Make sure that any figure postscript files use Type 1 fonts only (I don't have a conversion plan yet if they don't!). 3. A PDF is a format that allows a document to be opened and printed by a Mac or a PC without changing the appearance of the document. When creating a PDF it is important to make sure that you embed all the fonts.

The first thing you have to realize is that there is a fundamental difference between a raster image (which is what Raster3D produces) and a PostScript file. The PostScript language is designed to describe characters, lines, and shapes in terms of coordinates on a page of a certain physical size. A raster image knows nothing about characters, lines, shapes, or pages of any size; it's just a bunch of colored dots (pixels).

Yes. GhostScript comes with a utility called ps2pdf which will do the job. Also, Mac OS X has the ability built-in: just double-click on the PostScript file in the Finder, and it will convert the file to PDF for you and give you an option to save the results. I’m sure there are other tools to do the job, too.

Rotating pages and cropping pages only affects the display of the PDF file. If you export the PDF file to PostScript, pages will revert to their original uncropped and unrotated state.

Long answer: Maybe. There is a utility to convert PostScript files into ASCII files (it tries to extract the text), but it can not work on every PostScript file. The problem here is that PostScript is a full programming language, and there are many ways to accomplish a given thing. It would be next to impossible for a program to look at some piece of PostScript and decide what the contents are.

To convert EPS files into a non PostScript file format, we recommend that you convert the files to CGM or WMF (Windows Metafile) format with conversion utilities such as HiJaak or Transverter Pro.

Yes. pdf2cad converts to .dxf, the industry-standard CAD exchange format. You can open a DXF file in AutoCAD for viewing and editing. When you save it, you can do so in AutoCAD's native DWG file format. This will also make the file size a lot smaller compared to the DXF version, which as an exchange format can become quite large.

PDF generator software is available to help you save your documents as PDFs. There are several programs available for both PCs and Macs, along with websites that will perform the conversion for you.
