There can be two things that are causing this. One is your screen saver. You may not hear surround sound when you play movies or games if your sound card is not surround sound capable. The movie/game must also support surround sound. If you are not sure of either of these, check with your sound card manufacturer and read the documentation that came with your game/movie.

Likely Problem is 2 sound Devices in the system: Your sound system may have two sound Devices installed on your machine which are conflicting with each other.
