If your scores qualify you for a recognition ceremony, Duke TIP will send you an invitation in early April. Complete and mail the enclosed reply card only if you plan to attend.

If you graduated in January or are expecting to graduate in May or September of the current year, you are eligible to attend the annual Commencement ceremony in May. PhD students must complete their dissertation requirements prior to Commencement if they seek to walk at the ceremony. PhD students may walk the following May if he or she will be a September graduate.

To accept your offer of admission and reserve your place in the fall 2008 class, you must submit the Intent to Enroll $250 deposit through the WebPortal and you must submit your official transcripts and test scores to the SDSU Office of Admissions no later than May 1, 2008. If all of the items are not sent by May 1, 2008 it will be assumed that you do not plan to attend SDSU, and your space will be made available to another applicant.

Both ceremonies are similar in format, though the Grand Ceremony is more formal and includes lunch and campus tours. Some students will choose to attend both ceremonies if possible. No, if you do not wish to attend a ceremony, complete an in absentia application form. To graduate in absentia means that your qualification is officially conferred by the University Council in your absence and your qualification goes on public record. Each student is given a course syllabus at the beginning of each class per quarter, which lists the attendance policy for that class and contact information for the instructor. The student should contact the instructor and inform him/her of the situation and make sure they obtain notes from another student for the lectures/discussions they miss.

It is to the student's advantage to let a college know about your disability. This information should be shared with the Disability Service Office on campus. You should let them know immediately after your acceptance to the college.

All admitted students must submit a nonrefundable admissions deposit of $300 by the date stated in your admissions letter. This deposit reserves your place in the freshman class and is deducted from your fees for the first semester.

CTY makes assignments in late March after all the scores have been reported to us. Invitations will go out in early April, and are mailed in ceremony date order. The CTY Talent Search identifies, assesses, and recognizes the academic talents of highly able young people across the country and around the world.

The Spatial Test Battery assesses student ability in the area of spatial reasoning. This is a computerized test, given at a Prometric test center. The test consists of three parts for 5th & 6th graders, four parts for 7th & 8th graders, and the entire test is usually completed within 90 minutes, sometimes as little as 30 minutes. This test is open to students in grades 5 through 8.

Answer to FAQ #5: Yes, unless there's an operational requirement ... but exceptions are considered. Some students have opted to transfer early to get families settled in at their follow-on duty assignment locations and get children into schools before their summer break is over, etc., and therefore request to be absent from the graduation ceremony.

When you apply to graduate in AXESS, it will ask you if you will attend the ceremony. Say "no" and then indicate what address you wish your diploma to be mailed to. If you have further questions about your diploma, please visit the Registrar's Office or call them at (650)723-2041.
