There are two ways that you can do this. Either you can mention the authors name before the information is presented and then just put the date in parentheses like this example: Rogers (1994) compared the reaction times . . . Or you can leave out the authors name and put it in the citation with the date like this example: A recent study of reaction times (Roger, 1994) found that . . .

Parenthetical citations within the text of your paper are very important to help your reader's find the information that you have used, and to guard against plagiarism. APA requires that you cite all quotes, paraphrases, summaries, and any other sources that you use that is not your own wording. If a specific page is being referenced, the citation should include the author's last name, the date of publication, and the specific page number being cited.

It accomplished three things: (1) announces to your reader that you are presenting information that is from a source other than yourself. In doing this, you avoid plagiarism, (2) should direct your readers attention to the full documentation which is listed in your Works Cited page, and (3) they provide a reference to the specific location (book, magazine, etc.) of the material that you are citing.

There are generally two ways that it can be done. Graham Storey observes, "What Dickens shared with Carlyle was a hatred of Bentham's doctrine of utility and its social and economic consequences" (12).

You would use the full name of the organization the first time it is mentioned and then you would use the abbreviation any further times.

Then you would want to punctuate the first title words just as the source is listed in the reference list.

Whether it be APA or MLA, the in text citation will always come after a quote mark and before the period ending the sentence. This is because the citation goes with the information presented inside the area being cited, and therefore, is still part of the sentence itself. Correct: and so she says" (Burns 13). Only one period to end the sentence. Incorrect: and so it was over. (Burns 13). You do not want two periods, because your citation will have turned itself into a fragment sentence.

While different style manuals will have different guidelines, in general, if there is no author of a work, use a shortened version of the work's title for in-text citations, and use the title of the work to start the citation in the works cited list. This would mean that you would alphabetize by the first important word in the work's title.

Usually you want to use the quoted persons name before stating the quote. Then in parentheses at the end of the quote put a 'p.' for the page number, then the page. Example: Bayam concludes that journalists "must speak in a voice that is both institutional and representational, hierarchical as well as relational" (p. 111).

The idea for any reference system is to be sure that each time your refer to a source, readers are able to find it as a unique entry in your list of works cited. This can be accomplished by referring to the author and title of the source by name in your sentence, just the author in your sentence, or neither. Whatever information is not included in your sentence must go in the parenthetical citation, and the source must be differentiated from all other sources in the works cited list.

Because the material does not include page numbers, you can include any of the following in the text to cite the quotation (from p. 120 of the Publication Manual): A paragraph number, if provided; alternatively, you could count paragraphs down from the beginning of the document. Nothing. Just put quotation marks around the words you're using, which the reader can use as a search string.

Map Author if known. Title of Map [map]. Scale if given. In: Book Author. Title of Book. Place of publication: Publisher, Year, page number. Like unpublished interviews, letters do not need to be listed in the reference page. Instead, cite the information in the text of your document, according to the following format: Producer name & director name. Title of program [Television program or Radio program]. Place of broadcast: Channel Call Letters. Air date. Author's name. "Title of monograph.

Publishers who electronically supply their data to PubMed may include an icon link to a site providing the full-text. The provider's icon is displayed on the Abstract and Citation formats.

Since we are discussing books here, you would just replace the title in the area where the author's name usually would go. Use the author's name for only the first entry. For all other entries, type three hyphens followed by a period. Make sure the titles are sorted in alphabetical order. The same way you would cite a normal book entry. You would just place "ed." (editor) or "eds." (editors) following a comma after the author's name.

Then you just allude to the first author and an et al. Example: As Miller et al. (2001) demonstrated . . .

Just list the authors with the dates in the parenthetical citation. To separate the authors use a semicolon (;) after the date of each publication.

You simply would use both of their names. Example 1: Wellek and Warren (1992) found that . . . or Example 2: A recent study (Wellek and Warren, 1992) found that . . .

Author's name. (Year). Title of book (Name of translator, Trans.). Place of Publication: Publisher. (Original work published date)

Some styles allow you to add text before a citation in a paper. To do this when using EndNote5 or later versions, highlight the citation and select the Edit Citation(s) command from the EndNote submenu on the Tools menu (or from the EndNote toolbar). You will now see a dialogue box. In the box labelled Prefix type the required text. You must type a space after this text, to ensure that there is a space between the prefixed text and the citation in the document. Click on the OK button.

In those cases where the full-text document is provided in the citation and there is no document to order, the client will see a disclaimer with instructions to go to the source listed for further information. There are a few full-text databases that already say "THIS IS THE FULLTEXT" in the abstract field. If a client still wishes to order a copy of the original because of a table or illustration, this item can be priced and added to the Document Cart.

Absolutely. Simply select "Open" from the File Menu and select the cite file you would like to use for the document. If you want to associate that cite file with that document, you should use the "Save As" feature to save the information with the same name as the document, with a ".cit" extension. Because CiteIt! stores citation information in a database format, the size of a citation file can grow and shrink dramatically as CiteIt! opens, manipulates, and closes files.

Serials Solutions. Check the Serials Solutions database to determine if any of the library's research databases provide full-text articles for the magazine, newspaper or journal you need. The Serials Solutions database will link you directly to the database(s) that have full-text electronic journals. You may access this database by using the "Find Articles" link or "Databases" link on the library's homepage, or by clicking here. Library Catalog.

online database does not always have the full text of an article attached to the citation and summary: however, these articles may be available in a different database. You can find out by going to Journal Finder and typing in the title of the journal, newspaper, or magazine. The results will show you all the available avenues for finding the full text. If the complete article is not available online or in the Library, you may need to use a nearby library, or request it on Interlibrary Loan.

Firstly you can search the Library Catalogue to see if the periodical containing the article you need is available in our Library. Then, check the LIB HAS field and see if the issue/volume you are looking for is available in the Library. If yes, you may go to the Serials Section and get the desired issue/volume of the periodical. In some cases, the periodical may be available in microform (microfilm or microfiche). Request these materials at the side Circulation Counter.

Use the SULinks Citation Linker to find an article for which you have a citation. The journal title, volume, issue, and pages are required for an exact match. Less information will usually bring you to a table of contents. You can also try navigating your way to the journal volume that contains your article using the Locator's "Titles" search. Just enter all, or part, of the journal's title into the "Title:" search window.

Citation tones are the tones of characters that occur in isolation. These are often the tones marked in dictionary entries. However, when a syllable occurs together with other syllables, or is bound grammatically, it may undergo tone sandhi, and therefore is no longer pronounced with its citation tone. In certain dialects with tone sandhi, the use of citation tones have specific functions, for example, emphasis.

Citation rules vary, particularly for electronic source materials. Here are two examples for citing a TeachingBooks Original Author Program.
