Here are notes on setting up MS Outlook for email access under MS Windows 95 or 98. Eudora does not allow configuring the server port through the normal options dialogue. However a large number of options are exposed in an initialization file (eudora.ini) read at startup. Off campus access through Outlook using the Exchange Service is not supported. To access your email off campus you either need to use IMAP or the Web interface. The IMAP/POP/SMTP server is mail.cmich.edu. The Web interface is located at: https://mail.cmich.edu/exchange. Regardless of the method you use to connect, the username and password remain the same. If you are using a client utilizing IMAP or POP to check your mail, you need to set your SMTP server to a server provided by your local ISP.

For the incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP servers in Outlook, set both to mail.yourdomainname.com using your own domain name. For your admin user, the username in Outlook is simply the email address in full.

On our Windows 2003 servers, you can edit your own DNS and MX record by logging into your Control Panel and then click on the DNS editor icon there. The only things you should need are your username and password which you setup through the Admin Control Panel along with the POP server details which are tied to your domain name (where "yourdomain.com" is your domain name):-

You must have an Internet-accessible POP3 email account for Eudora Email By Phone to be able to access your email. Not all Internet Service Providers use POP servers. If your Internet Service Provider does not use this system, then you cannot access your email at this account through Eudora Email By Phone. PLEASE NOTE: America Online, Compuserve, Microsoft Network, Hotmail and Rocketmail users do not have a POP address and therefore cannot use the Check POP mail feature.

You can setup ahsmail to function within email client software provided you configure the email account properly. It can be useful to do so if you have multiple email accounts, because you can check all your email using a single program. Yes. You will be provided with configuration settings to download and manage your emails from desktop applications like Outlook, Eudora etc.

You can leave it in Eudora and use Eudora as your email archive. When you want to refer to that email, you can open Eudora and search for the email in question. The primary issue with this method is that eventually you will switch computers and, although you can copy all your Eudora mailboxes to the new computer, you would also have to install and maintain Eudora on your new computer just to read those old emails. Clean out your Eudora email of all old messages you definitely no longer need.

Select "POP3" from the pull-down menu as your server type. Then enter "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your incoming mail server and "smtpo.ctimail.com" as your outgoing mail server. If you wish to send and receive e-mail on your Custard It Ltd server, you will need to configure your e-mail software to do this. We have used Microsoft Outlook Express for the purposes of this example. When you take out one of our virtual servers you are given at least one POP (Post Office Protocol) account, this is where all e-mail sent to you is located.

Fill in your name and your email address. Then type "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your Internet mail server. The account name is your login ID and then enter your password. Afterwards, press " ADVANCED OPTIONS" button. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server)

Set-up a new account in Outlook Express, and use the following details: POP Server: mail.domain.com , SMTP serer: mail.domain.com , username: email@address.com and password: the password you specified when creating the account.

Inside Outlook Express go to the Tools menu and select the Accounts option. Click Add and then select Mail... from the submenu. Enter your name, as you wish it to appear to others, in the Your Name page of the wizard. In the Internet Explorer Address page enter your e-mail address as provided by your ServiceJump account representative. When presented with the E-mail Server Names page, select POP3 for incoming mail server type, and enter mail.servicejump.com as your Incoming mail server.

Make sure you have configured your POP3 settings and SMTP settings to mail.yourdomainname.com. Also, to send mail, be sure you have checked login authorization required. More information is found from your CPanel in the Mail Icon.
