The normal, active Collie will bark when strangers arrive, at the neighbour's cat, and at strange goings on in the neighborhood. If barking is a problem, the dog can be "debarked" at the veterinarians. Debarking is usually a 30 minute surgery, done under anesthesia, where the vocal cords are cut. The dog can still bark, but it is a muffled sound.
