This is probably the fuel pump which is located inside the gas tank. It's a common noise, even among some 3rd gen owners. There's really not much which can be done about it with the exception of replacing the pump and hoping you get a quieter one.

You have a ground loop problem. Try using a cheater plug that removes the third prong, also called the 'ground'. Do NOT ground the grounding tab on the cheater plug! That would defeat the purpose of the cheater plug for this application. You have an amplifier problem. If the ground cheater plug does not help, disconnect all interconnects from the subwoofer amplifier. If still hums, call or email technical support. You have a problem with other equipment.

F-bodies are notorious for their "mysterious" rattles/knocks/squeaks. The 4th generations cars have greatly reduced these rattles, but they are not totally eliminated. Try one of the following: Wrap some electrical tape around the rear seat posts. There usually isn't a perfect fit of the seat latches and the post causing rattling. The tape will reduce any play and deaden any rattle. It could also be the hatch.

Rushing noise: Immediately after turning on the gas tank valve, you may hear a "rushing" noise. This is just gas rushing into the supply hose and manifold. Groaning or metallic cracking and popping: As Flavorizer Bars, burner tubes, and cooking grates heat and cool, they expand and contract, causing these sounds. Fluttering noise: If the slide-out bottom tray is not fully pushed into place, excess air may be drawn into the cookbox, causing a "fluttering" sound.

Some, if not most, Impalas arrive with the rear exhaust hanger bolts loose or missing. Have them replaced or tightened at the dealer. Also, there is a heat shield that goes around the plastic gas tank that runs close to the exhaust. It can get resonate when a larger or noisier exhaust is installed. If the heat shield is rattling, try getting some thick sponge or that gray spongy packing material and cut it into four large pieces.

That's most likely your CV joints. They tend to go on all front wheel drive cars, especially if they're not taken care of. Repairs range from $350 to $600, or more, but can be replaced pretty easily on your own for about $225 to $250. Hatching baby brine is relatively easy. You can go the your local pet store and buy a hatching kit which includes brine shrimp eggs and a hatcher and follow the included instructions. Purchase a brine shrimp net if one is not included in the kit.
