If you are joining the Performance Class and there are no understudy positions, then a requirement of the program would be to perform. If you are joining a Choreography Performance Class, then you may elect to chose the Choregraphy program and not perform.

All undergraduates accepted to the school of music must be recommended by the faculty audition committee. Thus, undergraduate applicants must audition. However, graduate music engineering graduate students do NOT need to audition. Only graduate performance majors need to audition. Both the MLA and BLA Admissions Committees are overseen by the Chair of the Department and are made up of two or three professors and two to four students.
