Every dog or cat has it’s own normal temperature, however usually it is between 101 and 102 degrees. The reason we usually take your pet’s temperature early in the hospital visit is that nervousness or excitement can cause it to increase above normal. By seeing your pet for regular yearly examinations and keeping good records we can more easily determine what your pet’s “normal” temperature really is. Any temperature over 103 might be cause for concern.

Cats and dogs have a higher body temperature than ours, which is why they sometimes feel "hot" to the touch especially if you have cold hands. Their normal body temperature is 100.5-102.8 degrees F or 38.1-39.2 degrees C. The best way to see if your pet is running a fever is to take his temperature with a rectal thermometer. If your pet's temperature is much above normal and your pet seems out of sorts, you should contact your veterinarian immediately.

Normal refers to the statistical term 'norm' which is the average of healthy and not so healthy people. We need to strive to be at the healthy end of the bell curve and not at the norm or center of the curve. 98.6 degrees is where you want to be.

We recommend for average size dogs, approximately 1.2 ounces of Elliot’s Hound Sauce® to be mixed into the food. For smaller dogs add slightly less than that. We found this amount enough to lightly glaze the entire bowl of food.

Ask your neighbor to keep the cat inside or at least out of your garden. If you’re still in need of a cat deterrent, here are a few suggestions: A last resort may be to put cat-proof fencing around your garden. The kind of fencing used as a deer deterrent should work.

The normal length of time it takes for a pregnancy is 59-65 days, with 63 days being the average. Dogs have an interesting way for predicting when they will deliver that no other species has. We suggest checking rectal temperatures on a pregnant dog 1 week before she is due to deliver. When the temperature drops to 99.0 or below, she should deliver within 12-24 hours. If she doesn't, then she should be examined by a veterinarian. Cats do not have this predictability.
