For the SCAT (for 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 graders), and the ACT (for 7 and 8 graders), it is better to guess than to leave an item blank. No points are taken away for wrong answers. For the SAT (for 7 and 8 graders), guessing becomes a little more of a risk, because points are deducted for incorrect answers. For all the tests, good general advice is that students should be encouraged to go with hunches, and also to practice eliminating obvious wrong answers.

If you want to transfer to GNM status in another program, you must apply to that program in the usual way. ADon't allow a student to come to rash or quick decisions about withdrawing from school. Oftentimes, the problems that they are experiencing that would make them consider withdrawal can be solved with assistance. Encourage your student to talk to the faculty member with whom he/she is experience difficulty or a member of the student life staff. Other adults on campus can help the students weigh the difficulties that they are having and help them reason through the possible alternatives.

We offer family medicine faculty advisors as a service to third and fourth year medical students who plan to enter family medicine residency training. This allows students to work with a trusted faculty advocate, receive confidential advice and suggestions for how to proceed with development of personal statements, residency interviews and developing a match list. As students complete medical school, many feel confused and lost as they go through the process of residency selection.
