The wind energy resource at sea is extremely large, and the UK has one of the highest in the world with over 33% of the total European potential. I use a standard volt meter with a 50 volt range. Some folks use an inline amp meter and while they burn very little power, I don't like anything extra that takes away from my wind power. For example, the diode (no wind switch) method uses 1.4 forward voltage (loss) and that's one reason I went with the wind switch.
