Rob Seliger's initial concept paper, the current versions of the OLE demo spec and the sample code are all available on the Duke server: The HL7 Version 2.X Object Mapping Specification (OMS) prescribes the process of translating a given version of the HL7 protocol to a set of objects and methods that can be used to implement HL7 in an object brokering technology. Having different BISLs tailored to each programming language allows each BISL to specify all the details of a program module's interface (how to call it) and behavior (what it does). If one has a generic interface specification language, such as VDM-SL [Jones90] [ISO-VDM96] [Fitzgerald-Larsen98], then one cannot specify all interface details. We've found that many mainstream medical doctors are slow to catch on to biomedical treatments. ARI's DAN! project is always working to educate physicians, but there is some resistance since many of these doctors were taught in medical school that autism is an untreatable disorder, or that pharmaceutical medications are the only answer. We encourage parents to provide resources to physicians about the DAN! approach. DAN!/ARI offers free online resources to help.

Many autistic individuals have sleep problems. Night waking may be due to reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus. Melatonin has been very useful in helping many autistic individuals fall asleep. Other popular interventions include using 5-HTP and implementing a behavior modification program designed to induce sleep. Vigorous exercise will help a child sleep, and other sleep aids are a weighted blanket or secure-feeling mummy-type sleeping bag.

Maybe, maybe not! Weight loss is not the goal of this approach and cannot be where our focus is. What happens with our weight will depend on our past history with dieting, how much we have damaged our metabolism, and many other factors. Those of us that start the OO approach immediately following a restrictive diet will most likely gain some weight at the beginning. But we must remember that this is weight we would have gained ANYWAY as a rebound from the diet.
