Yes you can. To set your Web browser to use our fonts you must change default settings in your browser. The steps to do this will differ in different browsers. In later versions of Internet Explorer for Windows go to Tools, Internet Options, and select Fonts. In IE for the Macintosh go to Edit, Preferences, and under Web Browser select Language/Fonts. In either version of IE you now select a language and associate a font with that language.

We use web fonts for body text and for menus, because they are easier to read, can be updated in the CMS, and can be read by search engines. Traditionally web designers have used Arial and Verdana for body text. However there are much wider choices now, particularly if your target market uses Windows XP.

TextAloud includes toolbars or plugins for Internet Explorer and Firefox. With these browsers, after installing TextAloud and rebooting, you can display the toolbar by going to View->Toolbars in the browser. The Microsoft Office Word program lets you save a Word document as an html page. The problem with Word's normal conversion to html is that it adds a lot of extra code to the web page to allow the page to be resurrected as a Word document. Generally speaking, when you create a web page using Word's 'save as html' command, there will be problems viewing the document in WebCT. Usually it is best to just leave the document in Word format.

Regular fonts will look fine if you use them at medium to large sizes – 12 to 14 points up, especially if you set them in a program that does good font smoothing (anti-aliasing), but as the font size gets smaller, the anti-aliasing doesn't just smooth the edges of the characters, it blurs the whole thing making it fuzzy and hard to read.

MS Windows fonts The Windows installation CDROM contains fonts for most European languages. If you did not install "Multilanguage Support" when you installed Windows, you can install it from the "Add Programs" Control Panel. East Asian Language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) support for Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer can also be used by Emacs. These are available from http://www.microsoft.com, or on the installation CDROMs.
