Fortunately we have never had a really bad storm at sea aboard Ventana. On a previous trip with a large crew on an 80' boat we experienced several days of 40-50 knot winds and seas of over 25 feet. On Ventana we have sailed a number of times in 30 knot winds and 12 foot seas and a few times in stronger winds for short periods. Several places will have storm information. The local National Weather Service office in the area of the storm conducts damage surveys from severe weather events. The Storm Prediction Center documents storm reports, but the official designation is left up to the local National Weather Service Office.
