Unfortunately, GSAS is not able to provide funding for M.A. students. Any funds you secure through the institution will likely be in the form of loans for M.A. programs. You are encouraged to look for outside (scholarship) funding as well.

School-wide, over 50% of all financial aid applicants receive some sort of financial assistance, in the form of loans, scholarships and grants. Only those applicants who actually apply using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the deadline are considered. Most departmental funding is geared to doctoral students.

Graduate students and unaffiliated researchers may be included on applications. Graduate students should not be included as PI, Co-PI, or senior personnel. Unaffiliated researchers need to go through an eligible institution to be involved in these competitions. Some funds may be available to support part-time graduate study, and funding decisions for part-time students will be handled on an individual basis at or near the time of admission. Applicants who intend to study part-time should indicate their interest in financial support on their Rackham Application for Graduate Studies. In addition, the desire to study part-time should be identified in the statement of purpose.

Acceptance into any of the Fields in the College of Veterinary Medicine entails financial support, which includes full tuition, health insurance and a stipend of the duration of the student's program (contingent upon satisfactory progress). An applicant to any of the Graduate Fields in the College of Veterinary Medicine will be automatically considered for financial support.

Most of the students whom we fund are teaching assistants (TA). However, a number also work as research assistants (RA), many for our Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and a few for the UK Poverty Research Center. In addition, there are competitive fellowships from the Graduate School for which we nominate applicants and they occasionally receive. In addition, we frequently supplement TA or RA positions with partial scholarships.

Beginning in 2007, the School of Arts and Sciences will require students to take Expository Writing 101 and one additional course, credit-bearing and worth at least 3 credits, from a list of approved courses. (This list is currently in progress.)

While enrolled in your freshman year studies at your participating UT System university, we will contact you and ask you to complete an online process to indicate your desire to return to UT Austin to complete your studies. At that time, you will be able to select a first-choice major from a list of options available to returning CAP students.

Some students enter our program with a masters degree from other universities. Based on a review of their graduate transcripts and other appropriate materials (such as course syllabi), we determine which of their graduate courses can be accepted for transfer credit.

Our goal for students who graduate from The Kessler School is for them to be prepared for any educational learning environment. Many remain in the private school setting (Canterbury Episcopal, Greenhill, Lakehill, St. John's Episcopal, Good Shepherd), but an equal number have moved into the public magnet schools.

Virtually every qualified graduate student in Speech Communication receives financial aid. Most graduate students in the department hold teaching assistantships that require teaching two or more sections of a basic speech course each semester. These assistantships come with a stipend and a waiver that covers tuition and some of the student fees. Some students receive research assistantships that that also come with a stipend and a waiver. A few students in the department receive fellowships.

Yes, Purdue guarantees a minimum of four years of full funding for all of its psychology graduate students. This includes a monthly stipend, tuition re-imbursement, and basic health insurance in return for service as a Teaching Assistant or a Research Assistant. Approximately 50 percent of Media, Culture, and Communication MA students intend to continue their scholarship as PhD students. The other 50 percent of our students intend to take their in-depth study of media, culture, and communication theory and pursue jobs in a variety of industries. The MA and PhD programs in the learning sciences are dedicated to the preparation of researchers, developers and practitioners qualified to advance the scientific understanding and the practice of teaching and learning.
