For the service to run, a modem is required. The one condition with DSL is that you must be within 12 miles of the telephone exchange in order to enjoy the benefits. You can check for yourself through the Availability Checker on the providers site of your choice.

The difference between the three high speed Internet services are how you, the user, connects to the Internet. DSL uses the phone lines but you must be within 18,000 feet from the co-location facility to receive the service and have an active phone line. Cable modem uses the existing Cable TV lines to deliver its broadband service. Availability is to limited areas and the service is a shared connection, thus speeds can slow down when a lot of people in the same neighborhood are online.

DSL service speeds are distance sensitive. The DSL service you get depends on how close you are to their central office. With Time Warner Cable Business Class that does not matter. You will be able to get the product you have purchased no matter how far away you are from Time Warner's offices. Installation with DSL also takes several weeks or months to get installed. Time Warner Cable Business Class can be installed within five business days at a serviceable address.

A Straight-Through Ethernet cable connects your MediaMVP to your computer through a Hub, Switch or a Router. Both the MediaMVP and the computer must be connected to the same Hub, Switch or Router.
