It is difficult to estimate, exactly how many hours each hat takes to make. Many hours are in involved in finding, ordering, buying and finishing, the fabrics I work with. Generally, I estimate it takes, somewhere between 10 to 20 hours, just to cut and sew a furhat, depending on the model. I do not take special orders.

The blocking (beginning) process takes the shortest length of time less than one hour, but the finishing (ending) process usually takes from three to six hours or more. However, there are many other steps in between which can require a day or more.

A popular look, and one of my personal favorites, there are many cloche styles to create. A cloche has a deeper crown and fits close to the head. It can be brimless or have a narrow brim. As with other hat styles, the cloche can be made from a "cut and sew" pattern, crochet or knit patterns, or a blocked style made from a hood (usually straw, paper or felt). Look for an old crown block in the shape you want, or be creative and make one. A few styles can be ordered and made new.

Contrary to popular belief, our many years of experience tells us that the best fur felt hats are made from a blend of wild hare, wild rabbit and tame rabbit furs. "Best" in the sense that a hat holds its shape and finishes well. A properly felted and finished fur felt hat DOES NOT need to be excessively stiff.

I can make XS and XXL in the Cavaliers, Tall Hats and Tricorn/Pirates. I can also adjust for a long head, round head or broad forehead. Heads definitely come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.

The look of the Beer Hat has developed and matured over the years from a clumsy looking hat cut out by hand and held together with staples to something that is grabbing everyone's attention. The patterns for the hat are cut from a precision cutting die using a heavy-duty hydraulic press that makes every hat the same. The hats are then assembled and sewn together using industrial sewing machines.
