If you use any Internet Service Provider (ISP) that serves areas outside Indiana (such as AOL, CompuServe and Prodigy), you will need to apply for an INSPIRE Password.

We may need to update our authorization files with details of your ISP. Please email the name, address and telephone number of your ISP to support@INSPIRE.net or apply for an INSPIRE Password.

INSPIRE can be accessed by Indiana residents who have Internet access at school, home, in their library or at their place of business. Residents of other states may have similar services available to them.

There are a number of reasons why INSPIRE may occasionally seem slow. At certain peak times during the day and early evening, the Internet itself may be running slowly due to the number of people online. If you are using a PC that has a slow modem connection or not enough system resources (memory, processor speed etc.), then this could also make INSPIRE appear sluggish. Please check our system requirements.

Later versions of the browser provided with the AOL service generally work with Washington Trust OnLine Banking.

It is possible to use WebCT with AOL but only with AOL 7.0 or higher. Otherwise you should be able to connect to the internet with AOL, but then you will have to minimize the AOL browser, and then open up Netscape or Internet Explorer while AOL is still running. You will be able to do everything that you need to with Netscape or Internet Explorer. Please note that the recommended browser versions for WebCT 4 CE are Netscape 7x, or Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or 6.0.

If you have an America Online broadband Internet connection, you can turn on the firewall that's built in to Windows following the steps on the Use an Internet Firewall page. If you have an AOL dial-up Internet connection, it can only be protected by Windows Firewall if you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 or earlier, the firewall does not interfere with the AOL connection.

All of COM Library's online resources can be accessed remotely from any location from which you have Internet access. Blackboard does not support the AOL web browsers. If you are connecting to the Internet using AOL, once connected minimize the AOL box and start Microsoft Internet Explorer. Yes, you can still use AOL; however, this is not supported by the Choice OnLine service and you will have to refer to AOL for any technical support. Choice OnLine will be providing the high speed Internet connection, so your viewing of websites, including AOL, will be much quicker than using a modem. INSPIRE is Indiana's Virtual Library on the Internet. INSPIRE is a collection of commercial databases and other information resources that can be accessed by Indiana residents using any computer equipped with an Indiana Internet connection and a Web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.

The INSPIRE databases are funded by various means including INCOLSA member support, grant, and INCOLSA funds. One of the more common problems we have encountered is the Internet browser built in AOL. When students dial up to AOL, and use the web interface included, often menu items do not show up or the page is incomplete. This is due to settings within their environment, but can be overcome. Once you establish an AOL connection, minimize (do not close) the AOL application to the taskbar. Then use a browser (Explorer or Netscape) on the Windows or Mac desktop to gain access.
