What happened to the songs written for Blondie?

FAQ: The Duran Duran Timeline's Frequently Asked Questions
In 1998, Nick and Warren wrote two songs for the reunion album of the group Blondie -- "Studio 54" and "Pop Trash Movie" -- but because of bad timing and bad politcs at EMI, the tracks got shelved. Since Nick and Warren still owned the rights to the song, Duran Duran recorded "Pop Trash Movie" themselves as the title track to the 2000 "Pop Trash" album. Basically, there are five different versions. The UK LP was the first.

Do I need backing for the songs I have written?

Yes, most definately! You should try to get the demo as close to release quality as possible. A song with backing gives more of an impression as to the finished product. At this point, it is about presentation. Remember being at school where the pupils who got the highest marks had their work typed out and presented it neatly in a folder? Without backing, a record company may think that you're not making the effort.

It's generally a bad idea to send unsolicited material to a publisher. However, it is possible to get your material heard by publishers if you are able to develop some kind of rapport with them. One way to do this is to contact the publishers beforehand.

Frequently Asked Questions - Don Markstein's Toonopedia
They are written in the order in which I write them. Sometimes seeing a name in a lot of requests will make me want to write one. Sometimes I take my cue from Today in Toons, and write up a toon on its anniversary. Sometimes I happen to run across a really good picture of a particular toon, and take that as my cue. And sometimes there isn't any reason at all — I simply surprise myself by suddenly writing a Toonopedia™ article I hadn't expected to get to for months or years.
