Premature babies have periodic eye examinations to evaluate for the presence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a disorder in retinal blood vessel development. The retina is the light sensitive layer in the back of the interior of the eye. During gestation, the retina matures slowly, and its blood vessels grow from the very back of the eye toward the outer edge of the retina. By term, the retina is mature, and the blood vessels are in their fully developed positions.

There is no predetermined schedule for changing glasses or contacts. It is necessary to check your prescription when it no longer provides adequate correction. However, it is a good idea to have regular eye exams.

Traps need to be checked every 6-8 weeks between September and May as this is the time they are most active.
