For everyone's safety, we've intentionally made our hammocks very durable, with very strong fabrics and ropes that are approximately 6 times stronger than the maximum weight of the occupant. Hennessy Hammocks are intended for one person. While we don't recommend them for two people, it is possible if couples are comfortable sleeping in hammocks and do not exceed the weight limit.

For care and maintenance of your hammock, dry and repack damp gear to avoid mildew, mold, or color bleeding. To clean, hand wash using mild detergent, warm water, rinse and air dry. With so many hammock options available, there are almost unlimited places you can place them. The key to placement is to be sure the structure can support the weight capacity or an equivalent of a 4x4 to hold the body weight.

We recommend going to your local hardware store/Home Depot and buying two screw-in hooks. The hooks are approximately 3-4 inches long and about a ¼ inch thick. It is best to place them in a deck post (4x4), tree trunk, or something else that feels sturdy. Sinking them into drywall is not safe unless you are completely sure that the hook is going directly into the 2x4 stud inside the wall.

The cheaper stands cost around $80 but the fancy wood ones can be as much as $500.

If properly hung in a sturdy location, the full-sized hammocks can hold two normal-sized adults but are most comfortable when used one person at a time. The hammock chair is made to hold one person.

No, these hammocks are not made to weather the elements. If it gets wet, let it completely air dry before storing.

We recommend only dry cleaning or a careful hand wash of the hammock in cold water. Otherwise, the hand-made fringe may become damaged. We generally never wash our hammocks at home.

Hammock stands are normally 15 feet in length. Our hammocks easily fit in these stands but may need a bit of extension rope or a small length of chain in order to hang properly. If you are looking to hang a hammock between two trees/posts, then 12 feet apart might be a target distance. All of our regular sized hammocks are around 13 feet long. To fit a tight spot, you can also tie a large knot with the white cords on the end of each hammock in order to shorten the overall length.

It depends on where you live. We ship our hammocks via UPS ground, at 12 noon each business day. (If we receive your order at 1pm on Friday, it will ship on Monday.) We also have express options available for most locations, but bear in mind that as oversized items, hammocks and stands can often cost quite a bit to ship overnight! We're in Virginia, so folks on the east coast and in the midwest will usually get their hammocks in 2-3 business days.

If you can arrange to have hammock hooks 18 to 20 feet apart and 8 to 10 feet high, you can hang almost any hammock….any size in that space. You only need enough chain or rope at each end to make up the difference between the end of the hammock and the hooks the hammock attaches to. It gives you the best slow motion hammock swing possible.

The easiest and portable method to attach to two trees is Hammock Tree Straps. The strap loops around the tree and has a ring on the end to attach an “S” hook to each hammock end. These straps are tree friendly, made of polypropylene, and do no harm to the tree. The straps can be installed within minutes – perfect for camping or for moving your hammock from place to place. Naturally they can be installed in your favorite spot and only brought in during harsh seasons.

Different hammock lengths (ring to ring) will require different instructions. We can only make recommendations and you will have to tweak the installation to suit you. If your hammock is 13 feet long you will want a space approximately 15 feet apart with a foot of chain or rope at each end to adjust the hammock up or down from the ground. The hammock hooks that you hang the hammock from should be at least 4 to 5 feet off the ground.
