Why are there so many lakes with the same name? How can I tell which one is which?

Net4U.com - Where Fishermen Help Each Other
There really are that many lakes with the same name in each state. Hard to believe but there are. What we're doing is putting a dash, a city or other location next to the name of the lake in an effort to distinguish them better. Until this work is completed, the only way to tell the difference is to view each one. Note: There are some duplicates and we're working to eliminate those. We either overlooked it, haven't gotten that far or just plain messed up.

What are the Highland Lakes?

LCRA: About LCRA: FAQs
LCRA created this chain of reservoirs on the Colorado River northwest of Austin from 1935 to 1951 to provide a stable water supply for the basin, protect Austin and downstream communities from the worst effects of Hill Country floods, and generate hydroelectric power. The two largest reservoirs, Lakes Buchanan and Travis, store and supply water to meet household, agricultural, industrial and environmental needs throughout the basin.
Related Questions

How much water is in the lakes?

LCRA: About LCRA: FAQs
When Lakes Buchanan and Travis are full, the Highland Lakes can hold nearly 2.3 million acre-feet of water. (An acre-foot equals about 326,000 gallons, enough water to supply an average suburban family of five for 18 months.) But Buchanan and Travis usually are not full. Depending on rainfall and water use, the amount of water stored in them can drop significantly in just a few months, and can fill up in a matter of hours or days during a flood.

Can anyone take water from the lakes?

What can I do to keep the lakes safer?

LCRA: About LCRA: FAQs
Use common sense when out on the lakes. Traveling at a high rate of speed may be okay on a day when there is little traffic, but it's probably not safe on a holiday weekend when lake traffic is high or at night when visibility is poor. Pay attention to what's going on around you. Report unsafe activities to lake patrol officers. Don't drink while operating any watercraft. And make sure you have enough life vests on-board for everyone in the boat. See Water Recreation and Safety.

Do ponds and lakes breed mosquitoes?

Frequently Asked Questions About Mosquitoes
If it is a permanent body of water (such as a lake or pond), it is much less likely to be a source of mosquitoes than if it were a temporary body of water such as a puddle. A puddle three inches deep and three feet in diameter can easily produce 10 to 20 times as many mosquitoes as your average 1-acre farm pond. Permanent bodies of water develop resident populations of predatory species (aquatic insects, fish, salamanders) that reduce or eliminate the mosquito larvae in that environment.

Can you pull your own boat to all Mexican Lakes?

Mexican Lakes Our Most Frequently Asked Questions
Yes you can. Although, it generally requires a little more effort and planning than a fly in trip. Many Lakes in Mexico are fairly remote and access facilities are generally somewhat primitive by American Standards. Some of the Lakes have no facilities of any kind on the water, such as launch ramps, marinas and or accommodations that cater to drive down customers. This is slowly changing however, as more and more Gringos see the advantages of having their own boats on the water while in Mexico.

Why do some lakes have boating and horsepower restrictions?

Frequently Asked Questions - 473
It''s a matter of safety and outdoor ethics. Lakes with boating or motor restrictions are usually smaller waters that attract small craft, such as rowboats, canoes and rafts. On these waters the wake created by large motorboats can capsize smaller craft. Motorboat waves crashing the shore can also cause ill feelings with bank anglers. Boating restrictions are listed in the Wyoming Fishing Regulations.
