There are many ways of doing this, and we can accommodate your busy schedule. The business classes and Industrial Colloquium Series are always taught in the evenings, and in many cases, you can use science-based projects you do in your job for the internship and/or final project requirement.

While most students enter doctoral programs directly from undergraduate studies, it is not uncommon for students first to obtain a master's degree in their discipline. No. We only admit students as Master's students, even if their end goal is a Ph.D. If you hold a Master's degree (geography or other), you can apply for the Ph.D. program.

Answer: The CHDS master's programs holds admissions three times a year. The deadline for fall admissions is June 1st, the deadline for spring admissions is October 1st, and the deadline for summer admissions is March 1st.

A:Yes. While the PMDP is geared towards industry, it is still applicable to academia, because it is, after all, a Master's of Science. So it is still possible for you to continue on for your PhD after upon completion of the PMDP.

The main difference between the two degrees has to do with the level of specialization attained in your field. A master's degree provides less opportunity for specialization and little research training. Master's programs generally require the completion of 30 credits of coursework beyond the bachelor's degree and either a final, comprehensive exam or a written thesis (usually 50 to 100 pages in length).

This really depends on your ultimate career goal. If you want to become a university professor, qualified to teach undergraduates and graduate students, and do research and publish in your field of expertise, you must obtain the doctorate (Ph.D.). If your goal is to become, say, a social worker, a practicing speech pathologist, or a high school teacher, you should obtain a master's degree, which will prepare you to become licensed and/or certified in fields such as these.

The graduate program does not offer a "terminal" masters degree. Following successful completion of your course work and general examination, you may apply to the registrar's office to receive a masters degree en route to completion of your doctorate. The A.M. program is available to a small number of experienced musicians who are preparing or engaged in careers as performers and performance teachers and for whom a PhD is not appropriate.

The Masters of Engineering (Chemical) degree, commonly referred to as the M.Eng. Program, is a one-year professional degree. No thesis is required for this program, but students complete a 3 to 6 credit project. Financial aid is extremely limited for this program; most students are sponsored by their employer or family members or are self-paid. The Master of Science and the Doctoral degree programs (MS/PhD) are flexible, able to accommodate the needs and interests of individual students.

Your degree planner will discuss the options with you and help you decide which one is right for you. Typically, when it is possible, you will receive one degree plan that is the "most direct route to degree completion." This is also known as the "fastest track". Your second degree plan will be in your MOS/job field, and your third degree plan will be from a local college, when one is available in your area.

A student can apply to any of our joint programs with either a Master’s or a Bachelor’s degree. Those with Master’s degrees are reviewed in the same applicant pool as those with Bachelor’s degrees.

This is done on a case-by-case basis for each graduate student and each course. Students entering our program who have a Master's degree from another program may make a formal request to the Chair of the Graduate Committee to have particular courses evaluated for whether they can be substituted for any of our required courses (e.g., core courses, first-year statistics sequence; see our graduate handbook for details).

Contact your faculty advisor after you have completed (or will soon complete) 12 units towards the Master's degree (excluding EDTEC 540 and 541). You might want to draft a program of study beforehand -- keeping in mind that not all courses are offered every semester.

In general we recommend that all students apply to the Master's program. If you subsequently find that you cannot or do not wish to complete the entire degree you can always choose to get the Certificate instead (provided that you have completed at least three seminars with a grade of "B" or better.

A Master's degree is recommended, but is not absolutely necessary for admission to our program. Applicants who hold only a Bachelor's degree are generally subject to more careful review to ensure that the level of scholarly development is appropriate for rigorous doctoral studies.

Yes. Many students in our doctoral program enter with M.A.'s from other institutions, but regardless of whether or not they have M.A.'s they all begin as first-year doctoral students. There may be some courses from other institutions that those with M.A.'s can count toward their Minor requirements and they certainly bring the advantage of having previous experience in graduate level study. The Master's degree in Political Science is earned en route to the Ph.D.
