Because the incisions for jaw surgery are typically made inside of the mouth, no visible scarring will result.

The lengthening procedure is done by making small incisions into the muscle and tendon, through small puncture wounds on the back of the calves/heels, the muscle/tendon is continuously stretched until the appropriate length is achieved. There are no "scars", the puncture sites heal well and are almost invisible by the time the casts are removed in six weeks.

Jaw (or orthognathic) surgery involves the combined effort of the orthodontist and an oral surgeon. In some cases, the jaw bones are positioned in a way that makes it difficult, if not impossible, to obtain a good result with orthodontics alone. If you are talking about cheek implants, the incision is made on the inside of the mouth generally, so you will not have an outside scar. As far as chin implants, you may have a scar underneath the chin but it is located in an imperceptible position.

Sometimes the disharmony between jaws and/or other facial structures is severe enough to require surgical modification if the optimal result in overall fit of the teeth as well as facial esthetics is desired. Most of the time there is no visible scar after the healing is complete. Only the lesion itself is removed, leaving a flat raw non-bleeding surface, which is no bigger than the surface area of the original lesion. Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a uncommon condition that involves the loss, or breakdown, of the jaw bone. Osteonecrosis of the jaw has been reported in patients with cancer receiving treatment, including bisphosphonates, chemotherapy and/or corticosteroids. A dental examination with appropriate preventive dentistry should be considered prior to treatment with bisphosphonates in patients with concomitant risk factors.

You will most likely need someone to drive you home after surgery, particularly if you are receiving general anesthesia.

Most patients find that they can return to work and other normal activities within a week after surgery, though it may take two weeks before you look socially acceptable.

More strenuous activities, particularly activities which risk jarring or bumping the face, should be avoided for four to six weeks.

LASIK patients may have a very faint outline of the flap visible under a microscope. As time goes by, these edges become less apparent. In most PRK cases, little evidence remains once the eye has healed completely, even when looking at the cornea under a microscope. With CK, micro-punctures and straie on the cornea are not noticeable to the naked eye but are visible under a strong microscope and become less apparent over time.

Most of the time there is no visible scar after the healing is complete. Once healed, the hairline scars will fade.

The visibility and length of the scars produced by tummy tuck surgery will vary depending on the type of procedure that the patient chooses and the amount of skin that is removed.
