Lakeland OB/GYN provides several minor surgeries in our office thus avoiding the need for hospitalization. This saves you time, costs, and the need for general anesthetic. You receive your procedure in the comfort of our office that is already familiar and convenient to you. The procedures we do in the office are minor, done under local anesthetic and mild oral sedation. These procedures include Essure Tubal ligation technique, endometrial ablations and hysteroscopies.

If you are an insurance patient, your surgery and pre-operative appointments will be scheduled once we receive an authorization and/or benefit verification from your insurance company. This authorization process can take up to six weeks. If you are a cash patient, the Program Administrator will contact you to schedule the surgery within a week of your consultation. The actual surgery date will be at least two weeks from your first visit to our clinic.

No, for healthy patients, there is no difference in outcome for procedures performed in an outpatient center versus a hospital. Patients who are morbidly obese or those who have serious medical problems will be operated on at a local hospital should any problems arise related to their specific health issues.

For most procedures, cosmetic surgery can safely be performed in the office setting if the surgeon is board certified and the facility is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). The textbook, “Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology,” by Neville, Damm, Allen and Bouquot, defines it as a necrotic lesion in the jawbone, which is usually associated with facial pain. While the cause is unproven, it is thought that such a lesion may form at the base of an infected tooth or in an extraction site that didn’t fully heal.
