When storing an image into a computer format, computers use a specific language setting called a format. A format is simply a map of how the image is stored in the file. For instance, how wide and tall is the image, how many colors are there, etc.. time has gone by, image formats have gotten a lot more advanced. The most common of these formats are JPG, GIF, and BMP.
