Frequently Asked Questions

Would you read something I wrote and tell me what you think of it?

Robin Hobb's Home
No. Sorry. For me to do so is a waste of time for you and for me. I'm a writer. I'm neither an editor nor a publisher. In other words, I cannot truly advise you how to fix something to make it publishable, nor can I offer to publish and buy it. All I could tell you was whether or not I liked it, or how I might have written the story, if it were mine. These might be good insights, but the best places to get such information about your work are in a writer's workshop, or from an editor.

I have written a book. Will you read it and tell me what you think?

Once again, I can't. I just get too many requests like this to keep up with them and get my own work done.

First of all, work out a full mathematical analysis. Without it, there is no other way to see if a theory is valid or not.

Will you read a story (or part of a story) I've written and tell me what you think of it?

Victoria Hanley: F.A.Q. in English
The only time I would read your story and tell you what I think of it is if you're in one of my writing workshops. If I were to read all the stories people want to send me, I'd have no time to work on my books! But when you're ready, I encourage you to find someone you trust to share your writing with.

Draft rec.boats.cruising FAQ
My name is David Dennis, and I'll be very up front about this: I have virtually no cruising experience, an attribute that would seem to disqualify myself completely and utterly from FAQ writing or maintenance. What I've discovered over the years, though, is that one of the best ways to learn and accumulate knowledge and eventually become an expert is to write a FAQ. And, since I'm an inverterate reader, I know quite a bit more than one might think.

Q: I'm an aspiring writer. Can you read my short story/novel and tell me what you think?

Brandon Massey, Official Author Site
I wish I could, but limited time simply doesn't make it possible for me to read the work of everyone who asks me. My best advice is for you to seek feedback from a writer's group (do a search online to find one in your area) and, once your work is polished, a literary agent.

I'm a writer. I'd like to send you my story idea-- would you read it and tell me what you think?

immonen illustrations inc :: - faq
Absolutely not. Legally, it's way too risky. Here's why: Let's say I read your pitch-- five years later, you're still shopping it around, and I've forgotten about it. But I'm working on Hero X and have a brainstorm for how to get him out of a jam-- and it's your idea. You could very well come back at me with a lawsuit, and I wouldn't have a leg to stand on, even though I barely remember you. Keep your ideas between you and your publisher, when you find one. breaking in

Lots of us have. This is a country of volunteers and fund-raising dinners as well as informal get-togethers like block parties. For a number of reasons, volunteer food handlers can be in a tough spot when it comes to handling food safely. According to Robyn Sadagursky of the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline, "people who are great cooks at home, don't necessarily know how to safely fix large quantities of food.

I think my rat is in pain. How can I tell?

RMCA: Rat FAQ
If your rat cries when it moves or when you touch it or pick it up or winces then it probably is in pain. Rats are very stoic, so if your rat is truly showing signs of pain then the pain must be severe. If this pain is associated with a known injury, you can ask your vet about possible pain medication. If you do not know of any injury, you will need to take it to the vet for an X-ray to determine if there is a hidden injury or tumor somewhere causing it pain.

I think my ductwork has asbestos on it. How can I tell? What should I do about it?

McCullough Heating and Air Conditioning - Austin's ventilati...
Asbestos usually looks like a gray or white paper material that wraps around the ductwork and/or narrow strips around duct joints. It is safe as long as it is not disturbed. Often it is best to leave it undisturbed or to paint it to seal the asbestos fibers. Sometimes it is best to remove all exposed asbestos, or at least the narrow strips that touch the furnace. As a homeowner, you can remove this yourself, however it can be dangerous and may contaminate your entire home.

Mokihana Pest Contol, Inc. Frequently Asked Questions
There are 2 types of termites. Normally droppings are more indicative of the drywood termite. Their fecal pellets are unique in that they are very sand like in consistency but even more uniform in size and shape than sand. They are so hard and dry that they cannot be crushed when placed in the palm of your hand and vigorously rubbed with your other thumb. The color will vary from light to dark earth tones depending on the wood they have eaten.

I think I might have Adult GH deficiency syndrome. Can you tell me more about it?

I think I might have Adult GH deficiency syndrome. Can you tell me more about it? There are three components to the adult GH deficiency syndrome. These are body composition changes, blood lipid (cholesterol and fat) changes, and psychological changes. Because GH maintains muscle and fat, loss of this hormone results in a decrease in muscle and in an accumulation of fat. The decrease in muscle translates to poor muscle function and decreased exercise capacity.

I think I might have a virus. How can I tell?

CAS-IT FAQ
The first thing you should do is consider how you might have gotten the virus. The most common method of transmission is through e-mail. Commonly, viruses are disguised to look as if they are from someone you know as an e-mail with an attachment. Also, the e-mail will usually appear to be "not right" in that there are usually grammatical errors and it will not make sense that you are getting an e-mail from that person with text like it has.

Alright, I think I have it working, but how do I tell?

AFP548.com: Vapor
This is actually tougher to find out then you might think. When working correctly IPSec is pretty transparent to the user and to the applications that are communicating over the net. This is one of the real beauties of IPSec. The only difference that you should see when connecting over IPSec is that the first connection to the remote host or nework might take 5 to 10 seconds longer to go through.
