The Acoustic Lens has been voiced to work best with a flat response, full range system. The better the frequency response of the system, the better the Lens will sound. There are a number of "acoustic" amplifier combos on the market, some better than others. Better still is a system like a small PA system, with component mixer, amp and speakers. These types of systems will generally have a better frequency response, more dynamic range and more flexibility.

The Amulet is a stereo system (two completely independent channels), designed to mix or match the Acoustic Lens with other transducers, or to run two Lenses as a stereo pair. It can easily support a magnetic or saddle-type pickup in combination with the Lens, and the gain trimmers inside the internal preamp allow you to easily match the levels of your favorite pickup to the Lens.

The complex nature of acoustic guitar sound requires a good hi-fidelity amplifier or amplification system to reproduce the original tone faithfully. Electric Guitar Amplifiers are typically not suitable. A good electric guitar amplifier is designed to provide "color" and "excitement" to an otherwise dry electric guitar sound, and the cabinets typically have a open back which causes feedback.

The Acoustic Lens is designed to accurately reproduce the tone and nuance of your guitar at very respectable volume levels without excessive feedback problems. Ordinary contact pickups rely on the vibration of the instrumentös top and body to sense and create sound. In essence, the entire instrument becomes a large microphone, and often tends to feedback at lower volume levels.

There is not a one-answer-fits-all to this question. Ideally, you want to cater a lens that will best fit your need. For instance, a polarized sunglass lens is probably one of the best sun lenses available, but it is a poor choice for pilots. The Acoustic Lens pickup was designed and voiced specifically for the steel string guitar. It can be installed on most steel string guitars but because of its mounting location requirements, it will not work in some instruments. Classical (nylon string) guitars use fan bracing, where the braces run over the bridgeplate and block the area where the pickups need to mount, and so are unsuitable candidates for installation.

The Acoustic Lens poses a unique set of problems to amplify. It produces a very low output level and requires a very high input impedance to accurately reproduce a signal. Other commercially available preamplifiers, even the so-called "Piezo" types are designed to work with the output of a saddle-type or contact transducer, which put out a signal level typically 10 times higher than the Lens.

The real question is, which do you prefer? The high-impedance of our speakers in the lower frequencies (where the musical spectrum is most demanding) results in a greatly reduced current drain from the amplifier. So, both types of amplifiers run cooler, exhibit less distortion and last longer. Our speakers are very neutral and are not prejudiced, so what you prefer sounds best.

Lens care systems consist of three main categories, multi-purpose systems, peroxide-based systems and thermal-based systems. Multi-purpose systems are the most popular lens care regime as these "all-in-one" solutions are the easiest and quickest to use. Peroxide-based systems are best for people with sensitivities and allergies. Audacity will let you change your Sample Rate and Bits per Sample to rates higher than what your Sound Card can support. It will record at the highest rate your sound card supports, and then dynamically upsample the audio to the higher rate your selected - without providing any warnings that it did this. We recommend a speaker cabinet is connected to Marshall Amplifiers at all times. Failure to do this can and will cause damage to your amplifier. The vent on the top of your unit is part of the ventilation to keep the valves running at the correct temperature; the top and back grill must have a good air flow at all times as is if it is restricted this can and will cause damage.
