What are the chemical resistance properties of the pigments sold by Hoover Color?
Hoover Color Corporation : FAQAll Iron Oxide pigments are very chemical resistant. Only in very highly concentrated acids are these materials soluble. Mixed Metal Oxides and Chromium Oxide Greens are also very chemical resistant. The only materials that Hoover Color offers with limited chemical resistance are the Tuscan Reds and Orange and the Van Dyke and 925 Browns.
Related QuestionsWhat are the lightfast properties of the pigments sold by Hoover Color?
Hoover Color Corporation : FAQThe term lightfastness is defined as the ability of a pigment to resist fading after exposure to sunlight. Almost all of the pigments that Hoover Color sells are lightfast. This includes all of our Iron Oxide Pigments, both the Naturals and Synthetics, Chromium Oxide Greens, Mixed Metal Oxides, BC-35 Lampblack Substitute, and Bone Blacks. Most prehistoric art uses the same mineral pigments as those sold by Hoover Color.
Related QuestionsWhat are the heat stability properties of Hoover Colorâ??s Pigments?
Hoover Color Corporation : FAQMost of the pigments that Hoover Color markets are heat stable in most applications, with the exception of two important types of material. These include any pigments based on Yellow or Black Iron Oxides. Yellow Iron Oxides, FeO-OH, will begin to change into Red Iron Oxides at temperatures above 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Black Iron Oxides, Fe304, will begin to change into Red Iron Oxides at temperatures above 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Color Center - Color Handbook - FAQPainted surfaces are likely at some time to come in contact with chemicals, which react with and thus adversely affect the characteristics of the painted product or its properties in use. The most common form of chemical attack is from acidic or alkaline media. E.g. certain resin systems in the paint industry are cured by a catalytic process set of by acidic conditions. The acidic reagents present must not affect pigments used in these systems.
Related QuestionsCan Hoover Colorâ??s pigments be combined with other pigments?
Hoover Color Corporation : FAQYes, any of Hoover Colorâ??s pigments can be combined with other pigments; this is how they are normally used. Most often the pigment is combined with the white pigment Titanium Dioxide to produce a tint shade. This process is often used when a gray color is desired. Often color formulators will make a gray by combining a carbon black with a TiO2 white and shading to the tone of gray desired.

Related QuestionsHow are Shepherd Color pigments produced?
FAQ : Shepherd ColorWhile details of our production are closely held secrets, some general statements can be made. Our pigments are produced by the high temperature calcination of high grade metal oxides in a kiln according to strict time and temperature profiles. The resulting mixed metal oxide is milled using a variety of high-energy techniques in order to reduce the particle size. The products receive a final QA check and are stored for shipping.
