Make sure you are downloading the full size image. On the display page, click the preview image to download the full size content. Then you can install it using the instructions above.

The higher the resolution of your images, the better they will look in your screensaver. In all cases, upload the highest resolution possible. (A minimum of 640x480 is recommended.)

Go into the Device Manager and remove all items listed under "Display Adapters". To remove an item in Windows XP and Windows 2000, select the item, click the Action menu, choose Uninstall. To remove an item in Windows 98 and Windows ME, select the item and click Remove. If the installation asks you for the drivers, point the installation to drivers. This website is optimized for computer monitors displaying at least 800 by 600 pixels at 24 bit color (16.7 million colors). On a Windows-based computer, you may change your display settings by going to the Start menu and choosing Control Panel --> Display --> Settings. There are many methods for dealing with noise in high ISO images. My favorite is Jes's color grain reducer. I've even done a little tutorial on cleaning up high ISO images, which uses Jes's photoshop action. I like Jes's action best because it cleans up color noise without corrupting the image. There are plenty of other approaches.

By default PEL will try to load as much from an image as possible and continue dispite any errors found. The Exif standard mandates certain formats and lengths for some entries, and sometimes these requirements are violated. The strictness of PEL is controlled by the the method Pel::setStrictParsing(). The default is non-strict parsing. In this mode, PEL will not throw exceptions for parse errors but instead store them for later inspection via the Pel::getExceptions() method.

M.A.R.S incorporates images and attachments by linking to the file's original location. In other words, while the reference (file path) is stored within the database the file itself is not. Keeping that in mind, if you plan to use M.A.R.S within a networked environment you need to ensure that your images and attachments are stored in a central location that all computers will be able to access in the same way.

Is your monitor set to display more than 256 colors? Take a look at the two pictures above: if they look the same to you, there is a good chance that your monitor is not set up to display more than 256 colors. You've probably set your video display to use only 256 colors (8 bits per pixel). For the best appearance, set your video display to use thousands or millions of colors (16 or 24 bits per pixel).
