Is your soil acidic or alkaline? Soil pH, a measure of alkalinity or acidity, directly affects the availability of nutrients. The appropriate soil pH for optimum turf grass growth will range between 6.0 and 7.5. Certain plant species are better adapted to acidic soils and others to alkaline soils. Knowing the difference is very important in providing appropriate cultural inputs. Knowing the soil pH will help you manage your turf better. Warm season grasses are more sensitive to soil pH.

Acid-alkaline balance is important. Processed food, cooked food diets, pollution, and stress leave most people's blood pH very acidic, which prevents optimal cellular activity and immune system functions, and leaches alkaline minerals from the body (such as dissolving away calcium from your bones). Meat, dairy, processed sugar, starches and most grains, and most nuts and seeds are acid-forming.

In some areas, where soils are acidic, lime must be added. The lime can be spread on the bottom of the pond, or it can be thrown into the water.

SoilSET has an alkaline pH range of 11-13, like some NPK fertilizers. When applied to the soil, SoilSET pH buffers out – that is, it quickly adjusts closer to the soil pH.

Alkaline water is full of hydroxyl (negatively charged) ions, which are an integral part of the continual building of our DNA structure – this water has many health benefits. Acidic water is full of positively charged ions. This is water that we apply only to the outside of our body. In essence, alkaline water is an antioxidant and acidic water is oxidative (cleansing).

Here are some examples of acidic minerals: iodine, phosphorus, sulphur and chloride. Here are some examples of alkaline minerals: magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium. Alkaline minerals can be absorbed by the body and acidic minerals cannot.

The tea leaves newly picked from trees are alkaline, and the less the tea leaves are processed, the more alkaline they are. Similarly, the more the leaves are processed, the more acidic they become. So, green tea is more alkaline, while oolong tea is more acidic. This principle can also be applied to other foods; the more foods are processed, the more they are away from nature and therefore more acidic. The most popular misconception is that calcium causes kidney stones.

A low pH factor means it is acidic. It has been found that the higher the pH (the more alkaline) the greater is the tendency for struvite crystals to form (and potentially developing into F.U.S.). High quality cat foods help keep the pH in the acidic range, helping to prevent struvite crystals from building up.

In many cases nothing needs to be done. No matter which side of neutral your soil is on, soil microbial action tends to move the pH to neutral near 7.0. If you are extremely acid (not normal in Texas) you could use lime to help the microbes along.

Water (H20) ionizes into hydrogen (H+) and hydroxyl (OH-) ions. When these ions are in equal proportions, the pH is a neutral 7. When there are more H+ ions than OH- ions, then the water is said to be acidic. If OH- ions outnumber the H+ ions, then the water is alkaline.

Young Living has many products that assist us in achieving an alkaline system. For those of you who don’t know, the saliva tests will not show you whether or not your system is acidic or alkaline.

Generally, alkaline and acid are represented by calcium and phosphate. Foods that contain more calcium than phosphate are alkaline. Alkaline foods include: millet; sea vegetables; green vegetables, such as spinach and kale,; edible wild herbs; mushrooms; lentil beans; raisins; and the peel of fruits. Foods that contain more phosphate than calcium are acidic.

Bee and wasp venoms consist of complex mixtures of biogenic amines, protein(polypeptide) toxins and enzymes. The stinging effects are not due to the acidity or alkalinity of the venom per se.

Answer: Presuming this is a sports application, then a ryegrass based mixture will suit this soil type best. Either A20 Ryesport, or A8 Renovation. As with all soil types, good aeration will assist with good root development and with heavy soils this is essential.

We recommend usage of capped plastic or glass bottles. Avoid use of metal containers. Always rinse your container with Acidic Water to disinfect the bottles before storing the water. This is hygienic and helps to restore the molecular structure and pH better. After some time, if you find some flakes deposit at the side of your bottles, please do not worry. They are calcium flakes. You can either soak the container with Acidic water or vinegar to remove them.

In St. Louis, we are in the transition zone between ideals for northern and southern grasses. Tall Fescues are best adapted for our area where there are extremes of cold winters and hot summers.

No grass will grow in complete shade however we have found Sir Walter to perform the best in shaded areas if mown longer than normal prior to winter. Generally Sir Walter requires a minimum of 3 hours of direct sunlight or 4 hours of filtered sunlight per day.

Remember, in the Spring, high ambient air temperatures promote crown and leaf development at the expense of the root system in Bermuda grass. When soil temperatures rise above 65°F (18 C) root growth starts. The plant is able to pick up appropriate nutrients and access deeper soil-water resources. When soil temperatures are above 65°F , more aggressive plant growth can be met with more aggressive cultural practices.

There are two basic potting soils for most houseplants, sphagnum peat based (tan), and sedge peat based (dark). The sphagnum peat based soil is lighter and works in hanging pots and planter boxes where weight is a factor. Sedge peat is heavier and works best for potted plants on a stable base and are less likely to get "knocked" over. O.K. Elms will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, especially once they are established. For the best start for your elm, make sure the soil is well-drained and not too compacted. The pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0, and the soil should have a medium to high level of nutrients. You should plant your tree as soon as possible after its arrival; however, weather or other factors may delay your planting. In the fall, do not bring the tree inside for long-term storage or growing.

Answer: Yes, grass seed application rates do vary according to soil type and aspect. On average, seeding of a general landscaping mixture containing Perennial ryegrass is around 25g per metre square. For soils which are heavier in texture such as clay loams, or soils with extreams of acidity or alkalinity, then seeding rates should be increased to between 35-50g per metre square. This helps to compensate for seedling mortality.

Drinking alkaline ionized water will not over-alkalinize you. It is not like taking sodium bicarbonate or antacids.
