Senator Boxer is one of two Senators who represent all 35 million Californians in the United States Senate. Unlike members of the House of Representatives and state senators and assembly members, she does not have a designated district. Senator Feinstein is California's other U.S. Senator.

Senator Boxer is a member of three Senate committees: the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee; the Environment and Public Works Committee, and the Foreign Relations Committee. Senator Boxer's office is allotted a limited number of tickets to tour the White House, the Supreme Court, the FBI and other attractions in Washington. These are reserved on a first come, first served basis.

Senator Boxer was a member of the House of Representatives representing the Sixth Congressional District for ten years before being elected to the Senate. Before this she was a Marin County Supervisor. Before entering public service, Senator Boxer raised a family and worked as a congressional aide, a journalist and a stockbroker.

Senator Boxer was first elected to the U.S. Senate on November 3, 1992. She was reelected to a second six-year term on November 3rd, 1998 and November 2nd, 2004.

Senator Boxer married Stewart Boxer in 1962. They have two adult children and one grandson. They live in Riverside County.

Senator Boxer was born Barbara Levy in Brooklyn, New York on November 11, 1940. She attended public schools from kindergarten through college. She graduated from Wingate High School and Brooklyn College, where she received a bachelors degree in economics.

Senator Boxer has an office at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. She also has six offices in California: in Sacramento, San Francisco, Fresno, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and San Diego. When the Senate is in session, she spends the weekdays in Washington and often comes home to California on the weekends. When the Senate is not in session, she often spends her time in California meeting with people from around the state.

Senator Boxer is committed to answering every letter she receives from her constituents as quickly as possible. Given the large volume of mail she receives, it sometimes can take several weeks for a response.
